Jonathan Majors stands emotionless in court as Marvel star is convicted of assault and harassment
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Jonathan Majors has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari whom he met on the set of 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania'.
The Marvel star who stood emotionless in court was found guilty of third-degree assault and harassment.
Majors was convicted following three trial days with four hours of deliberation over the days before the verdict, according to ET.
What are the charges against Jonathan Majors?
The 34-year-old actor faced four charges and was found guilty of one charge of harassment and one charge of assault in the third assault. He was found not guilty of another charge of harassment and a charge of assault in the third degree.
In a Manhattan courtroom where Majors' verdict was delivered, his family members and Meagan Good were present.
Brittany Henderson, lawyer for Jabbari, addressed the verdict saying the jurors had delivered "justice" and her client hoped her case would "inspire other survivors to speak out."
"Justice has been served by today’s verdict. We are thankful to the jury, the court, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for giving this case the time and attention that it merits," she continued.
"Today has shown us that no abuser, no matter how powerful they may seem, is above the law. Ms Jabbari has shown irrefutable strength and poise while being forced to relive, both in court and very publicly, the abuse she was subjected to," she further stated.
"Her unwavering resolve to see this case through to the end is borne out of a desire to show other survivors and victims of domestic violence, that they too, can hold their abuser accountable," Henderson added.
"Ms Jabbari hopes that her actions will inspire other survivors to speak out and seek justice," she concluded.
Jonathan Majors' ex-GF described him as a 'controlling, manipulative' partner
Majors, who has been dropped by Marvel following the verdict, was arrested following a March 25 incident after his ex-girlfriend Jabbari accused him of domestic violence and manipulation.
Speaking about the aftermath of the attack, Jabbari said on stand, "When I was trying to sleep, I was very aware that I couldn’t lie on the right side of my head. It was an everything hurts situation."
She described the actor as a "controlling, manipulative" partner. Jabbari's attorney further explained in the closing statements, "What this really boils down to is four simple words: control, domination, manipulation, and abuse."
"The tactics used by those who commit domestic violence against partners, against Grace," read the statement.
Majors who could face up to a year in prison is scheduled to be sentenced on February 4.
