BIBB COUNTY, ALABAMA: A 32-year-old Alabama man who was featured on the hit podcast 'S-Town' died in a police shooting on Sunday, December 3, authorities reportedly said.

Joseph 'Tyler' Goodson was involved in a standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies at his home in Woodstock after he barricaded himself inside a home.

He had "brandished a gun" at officers of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, CBS News reported.

Joseph ‘Tyler’ Goodson posted a final Facebook update before the shooting

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident began when they received a “call for service” at the Woodstock property around 1.39 am Sunday, December 3.

The nature of the call was not disclosed as of Tuesday, December 5. However, Goodson posted a haunting final Facebook update that read “police bout [sic] to shoot me down in my own yard,” WIAT reported. He then barricaded himself inside the house and refused to surrender, reports stated, quoting ALEA.

Joseph ‘Tyler’ Goodson was a mentee of John B McLemore, the main character of 'S-Town'

Goodson gained national attention six years ago when he appeared on the podcast 'S-Town,' the Peabody Award-winning series produced by the team behind 'Serial' and 'This American Life.'

The podcast chronicled the life and death of antique clock restorer and Woodstock native John B McLemore, who committed suicide in 2015 at age 49.

Goodson was one of Woodstock’s residents and had a close relationship with McLemore, who he considered as a father figure.

“Because you know, I ain’t ever had no daddy worth a damn. He’s just about the only daddy I’ve got,” Goodson said of McLemore in the podcast’s third episode according to WAIT.

McLemore was dissatisfied with his hometown and referred to it as 's**t town,' prompting the show’s abbreviated title.

Joseph ‘Tyler’ Goodson faced legal troubles after the podcast’s release

After the podcast debuted in 2017, Goodson’s life seemed to spiral out of control just six months after.  He pleaded guilty to multiple counts of burglary and theft for taking items from McLemore’s property after his death, the publication reported.

Goodson claimed that McLemore had left the items - including cars and tattoo equipment - to him. He received a suspended sentence that included five years’ probation.

Woodstock Mayor Jeff Dodson said in a statement on Monday, December 4, that the town is waiting for “answers and details” about Goodson’s death.

“Please remember at this time that he is so much more than a character to the fans who loved him,” Dodson asked the public. “This young man was a father, son, brother and friend to many,” he concluded. Goodson is survived by five children.
