LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Josh Hartnett is strictly against the idea of his daughters carrying on his renowned acting career.

The 47-year-old and his spouse, British actress Tamsin Egerton, wish to insulate their children from the spotlight and the "tough" Hollywood business. "We don't bring [work] home," Hartnett told People.

He added, "Dad has to go to work, and they do know what I do, but they don't understand the thing yet. And I'm glad that they don't. We'll try and keep them away from it as much as possible because we want them to have normal upbringings."

Josh Hartnett on why he's against his children from joining the Hollywood industry

After experiencing "borderline unhealthy" attention from fans, Josh Hartnett, who is a father of four, left Hollywood and now chooses a quieter existence.

In response to a question about whether the 'Oppenheimer' actor would let his children pursue careers in acting, Hartnett said, "...if they really wanted to... But I wouldn’t encourage it."

"Not to make it too simplified, but I do think the industry is really tough on girls, and I don't want that for my kids. I also think the industry is tough on actors. We're always waiting for people to say it's okay for us to do our job," Hartnett added.

Josh Hartnett doesn't want his children to grow too fast

The Hollywood actor expressed his desire to slow down his children's rapid growth, saying he is savoring every minute with them.

Later this year, his oldest daughter will be nine. "Our kids are getting older, and all that stuff is terrifying," Hartnett said. "I don't want them to get older too quickly. I want to keep them as little, squishy kids."

Josh Hartnett pointed out his favorite part about being a father to daughters who are "hardcore Swifties."

"What's fun about being a dad is that your kids introduce you to new things that you didn't know you'd ever be interested in. You end up doing things that you never would do for yourself," he said. "Right now, my kids are very into riding horses, so I'm learning about that stuff. I'm excited to learn more things [with them]."

Hartnett established himself as a legitimate cinematic star after landing his breakthrough part in Sofia Coppola's 1999 hit film 'The Virgin Suicides'. He starred in nine films throughout 2001, including 'O,' 'Black Hawk Down,' and 'Pearl Harbor.'

The actor revealed he declined an opportunity to star in two big superhero films before choosing to discreetly walk back from Hollywood after a few more well-known films during the ensuing years.

Hartnett currently divides his time between the US and the UK, even though he is a UK resident with a marriage visa that only permits him to travel for up to 180 days annually.

Internet praises Josh Hartnett for being a good father

Netizens heaped praise on the Hollywood actor for trying to set a good example for his children as a father.

One X user tweeted, "Yeah that's some good fatherhood stuff." Another wrote, "Good parenting I guess .. protect your daughters with everything you got man." 

"Smart guy... keep your kids away from woke Hollywood garbage," remarked one and someone else wrote, "I think this is a father who loves his children very much."
