Josh Shapiro blasts Donald Trump for hugging the American flag but ‘ripping away’ people’s freedom

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro reportedly mocked Donald Trump during a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday, July 29 evening.

The 51-year-old politician, who is among people being considered as presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ running mate for the 2024 election, said, “You ever see this guy? Like when he's on stage?”



 

Josh Shapiro accuses Donald Trump of taking away people’s freedom

Talking about Donald Trump, Josh Shapiro said, “He kind of meanders over. And he goes over to the flag and he like, hugs the flag — I mean I love the flag — but it's a weird thing he does, right?!", the Raw Story reported.

The attorney also called Trump out by stating, “But while ... while he's hugging the flag you know what he's doing? He's ripping away our freedoms! That's what he's all about. Because here's what I know.”

He continued, “It's not freedom to tell our children what books they're allowed to read. That's not freedom. It is not freedom to tell people they can go to work but they can't join a union.

“That's not freedom! It is not freedom to tell women what they're allowed to do with their bodies,” he said, before adding, “That's not freedom!”

Internet wants to see Josh Shapiro as Kamala Harris' running mate

Many people on the internet agreed with Josh Shapiro and expressed that they would like the Pennsylvania Governor to become Kamala Harris' running mate. 

One X user tweeted, “He's making a very strong case here to be our next VP. I like the message and the enthusiasm and skill with which he delivers it.”

One person shared, “It seems like Shapiro attended the Obama School of Communication. His tone and gestures remind me of Obama's campaign speeches.”



 

“I like Shapiro…him and Kamala would make a good tag team,” another stated.



 

One individual noted, “They’re really nailing it with the weird commentary. Best messaging dems have had in a decade.”

Posting a GIF, one social media user wrote, “Performative patriotism is weird.”



 

Another stated, “Love seeing the new gen of leaders get showcased and it’s clear Americans want to see them too.”



 

“The flag hugging was definitely always weird…. ‘While he’s hugging the flag, he’s ripping away our freedoms,’ is a top tier line,” one tweet read.



 



 

“They are all weird. They dress up in the flag. Parade around in it. Use it as toilet paper. #WeirdGOP,” another person said.
