NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Joy Behar, 81, has tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. The longest-running co-host of 'The View' will not be able to appear on the daytime talk show for a full week on that account, according to the Daily Mail.

The update was shared by co-host Whoopi Goldberg, 68, during the December 12 episode.

"Joy is out this week. You know why? She finally got Covid. Three years, four years in, it finally got her," she stated, as the studio audience audibly groaned in response.

What was the reaction of Joy Behar's co-hosts?

The co-hosts of Behar on 'The View' could not resist themselves joking about how she would no longer be able to boast about her immune system after dodging the virus for nearly four years.

Sara Haines, 46, quipped, "She can stop bragging now," to which Sunny Hostin, 55, chimed in, "About her special blood type."

Goldberg agreed to the comments, before announcing that Behar's spot will be temporarily filled by the "fabulous, amazing Yvette Nicole Brown."

Behar co-hosted the show on Friday, December 10, before coming down with the coronavirus. She typically takes Monday as her day off.

Joy Behar took ample precautions during the Covid-19 pandemic

In the middle of March 2020, Behar took a break from her hosting duties as a precautionary measure, days before states began to implement shutdowns.

"I'm in a higher risk group because of my age, but I'm perfectly healthy. I don't look my age, but I'm actually up there. The number makes me dizzy," she had reportedly stated at the time, aged 77.

She did fall ill with a virus and missed a few episodes in July 2022, but insisted on not having Covid.

"I’m here to remind everybody, there are diseases out there besides COVID. I had a virus, that’s it, a really strong virus. I tested negative in five PCR tests. I did not have it. I still have never had it, but I’m a little worried about getting it now," Behar stated after her return.

"My husband was very good. He took care of me. And my dog never left my side while I was in bed. I did not eat for four days. I was sick and I just didn’t get out of bed," she added.
