Judi Dench, 90, afraid she can't go out alone anymore as eyesight worsens: 'I will walk into something'
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Dame Judi Dench shared an update about losing her vision in an interview with Trinny Woodall on the January 14 episode of her podcast 'Fearless'.
According to People, the legendary actress suffers from macular degeneration in her eyes. It can cause permanent and rapid central vision loss and is also the leading cause of vision loss in people over 50, as per the Mayo Clinic.

Judi Dench, 90, shared that she no longer goes out unaccompanied as a result of her deteriorating vision.
"Somebody will always be with me,” she told Woodall during the conversation. "I have to now because I can’t see and I will walk into something or fall over.”
“I’m always nervous before going to something. I have no idea why… I’m not good at being on my own at all, nor would I be now. And fortunately, I don’t have to now because I pretend to have no eyesight,” she added with a laugh.
When did Judi Dench start losing her vision?
The renowned thespian revealed that she was diagnosed with macular degeneration in 2012.
While attending an event for the Vision Foundation in 2021, she shared her struggle with reading scripts owing to her worsening eyesight.
"You find a way of just getting about and getting over the things that you find very difficult," she explained. "I've had to find another way of learning lines and things, which is having great friends of mine repeat them to me over and over and over again."
"So I have to learn through repetition, and I just hope that people won't notice too much if all the lines are completely hopeless!" she added.
