INDIO, COACHELLA: Justin Bieber's return to the Coachella stage was one of the biggest moments of the 2026 festival, drawing massive crowds and dominating online chatter. His set, packed with fan-favorite hits, quickly became a standout highlight across both weekends.

But the buzz around his performance wasn’t just about nostalgia and stage presence. Bieber’s Weekend 2 appearance also sparked attention for reportedly crossing Coachella’s strict time limits, a move that may have triggered financial penalties under the festival’s well-known curfew rules.

Even with the controversy, his set remained one of the most talked-about moments, keeping fans engaged long after he left the stage.

Bieber’s headline set became a major talking point not just for the music, but for what happened at the end. Reports suggest his Weekend 2 performance ran about two minutes over the scheduled slot, putting organizers at risk of penalties.

Coachella operates on a tightly controlled schedule, and even minor overruns can lead to fines. Bieber’s slight delay reportedly resulted in an added $20,000 penalty for that weekend.

During the performance, Bieber leaned into nostalgia, performing hits like ‘Baby,’ ‘Never Say Never,’ and ‘One Less Lonely Girl.’ He also continued his signature moment of bringing a fan on stage, creating a personal highlight that resonated with the crowd.



Despite the timing issue, fans praised his energy and connection with the audience, making it one of the festival’s defining performances.

Bieber wasn’t alone in drawing fines. Anyma also reportedly exceeded their set time, adding another $24,000 penalty. Combined, the overruns pushed total fines for the weekend to around $44,000.

The fines stem from Coachella’s long-standing agreement with the city of Indio, which enforces strict curfew rules to manage noise and event timing.

Under these rules, performances must end by 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and by midnight on Sundays. If artists go over, organizers face automatic financial penalties.

The reported structure includes a flat $20,000 fine for the first five minutes of overtime, followed by an additional $1,000 per minute beyond that. Even a brief delay, like Bieber’s, is enough to activate the penalty.

Local authorities have emphasized that enforcement is consistent, leaving it up to organizers to manage performers and avoid overruns.

Bieber’s overrun adds him to a long list of major artists who have pushed Coachella’s strict schedule. Over the years, several high-profile performers have faced similar issues.

Back in 2009, Paul McCartney exceeded his set time by a significant margin, while The Killers also ran late. The Cure reportedly had their set cut short due to curfew restrictions, contributing to hefty fines that year.

More recently, Lana Del Rey’s 2024 performance went about 13 minutes past the limit, adding tens of thousands in penalties.
