WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris made a significant announcement on Tuesday, August 6, that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will join her election campaign as the vice presidential candidate.

In an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), the US Vice President said, "I am proud to announce that I've asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate."

"As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work," read the statement.

Kamala Harris' accelerated search process for a running mate

Tim Walz, a former teacher and Army National Guard veteran, emerged as the chosen candidate following a rapid and intense vice presidential search.

The shortlist included prominent Democrats such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.

On Sunday, August 4, Harris held in-person interviews with Kelly, Shapiro, and Walz.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's chemistry and authenticity

Despite not having a close prior relationship, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Tim Walz found a strong connection during their meetings.

Aides and people close to the process noted that Harris was particularly impressed by Walz's "authenticity" and the warm chemistry between them during a final meeting at her Naval Observatory residence on Sunday, August 4, according to CNN.

Walz's rise to the vice-presidential spot was remarkable. In just two weeks, he went from being a third-tier candidate to a final contender.

This rapid ascent was fueled by widespread support within the Democratic Party, spanning both progressive and moderate groups.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's impactful collaborations

Tim Walz's selection was also influenced by his previous collaborations with Kamala Harris.

When Harris became the first vice president to visit an abortion clinic, Walz accompanied her.

Additionally, Harris' time spent with Walz during his 2022 reelection campaign left a lasting impact.

“The chemistry was really important to Harris and it really clicked for both of them. Then, on top of that, the Harris campaign, like all of us, saw how energizing Walz was for the base," said a source.

"Awesome choice!! He has been a great Governor in MN!" another individual tweeted.

Someone else remarked, "Vance will have a field day at the debate against him!"

"He's literally exactly what Dems need rn… couldn't be more excited about this ticket!!" a netizen commented while an individual tweeted, "Of course you would love a socialist."

Another wrote, "Did they try to find a Biden 2.0? Sure does look somewhat alike!"
