NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Vice President Kamala Harris revealed in a recent interview that former President Joe Biden sent her call to voicemail after she reached out to him following news that he was undergoing cancer treatment.

“I called him earlier,” she said. “I have not talked to him. I just left him a message after I heard the news,” Harris said during her interview.

Harris opened up about reaching out to Biden on MSNBC’s ‘The Weekend’, aired on Sunday, October 12. “I think Joe Biden is a fighter, and that is what I told him”, she said. “He’s going to fight this, and we’re going to hold him up and pray for his recovery and for his strength and for his family.”

The update about Biden’s health came out when his office announced on Saturday, October 11, that he is undergoing radiation therapy, which comes on top of the hormone medication pill he had previously been taking.

The radiation therapy is expected to last five weeks. His team assured that the 46th president is “doing well.”

Biden himself had announced in May that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. In August, he had skin cancer removed from his forehead and was seen with a large bandage in public.

Harris, in her memoir, '107 Days', which was released last month, details her historically short 2024 campaign for the presidency and candidly shares her views on the former president.

At one point, she ripped his decision to run for reelection, calling it “recklessness.” She also recalled that shortly before she debated with Donald Trump, Biden confronted her, accusing her of badmouthing him to donors.

During the interview, Harris revealed speaking about her new book with Biden, but didn't disclose the nature of their conversation. “I’m not going to tell you,” she said with a grin when asked.

Since leaving the White House last year, the former president has largely stayed away from public appearances and remained silent on Democratic analysis of last year’s election. Harris, however, did not indicate the state of her rapport with Biden in the wake of her book.
