Kamala Harris says Republicans are divisive as she slams JD Vance for not addressing Project 2025 at RNC
FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Kamala Harris has issued a stern warning about Donald Trump's running mate Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) during a campaign event in North Carolina on Thursday, July 18.
“[We are] 110 days out from the election, and while many of us have been involved in these elections for every four years, practically, nearly every time we will say, ‘This is the one.’ Well, this here is the one,” said the Vice President.
“The most existential, consequential, and important election of our lifetime," she added, according to The Hill.
Kamala Harris criticizes JD Vance's VP nomination acceptance speech
After Harris emphasized the importance of the upcoming November election, she shifted her focus on JD Vance who spoke at the recent Republic National Convention about his upbringing in rural Ohio in his speech to officially accept the vice presidential nomination on the GOP ticket.
“It’s a compelling story. And, it was not the full story," Harris said of Vance's speech.
“Frankly, what is very telling is what he did not talk about on that stage. He did not talk about Project 2025, their 900-page blueprint for a second Trump term," she continued.
"He did not talk about it because their plans are extreme and they are divisive,” the Vice President added.
Kamala Harris' campaigning in critical state
North Carolina, a state Donald Trump won in 2020, is a key battleground that the Biden-Harris campaign hopes to win in November.
Harris's campaign stop in the critical state is part of an effort to drive support while President Joe Biden is self-isolating in Delaware following his Covid-19 diagnosis.
The 81-year-old commander-in-chief is also facing calls from several Democrats to end his reelection bid and allow another candidate to run for president.
With mounting pressure over Biden's candidacy and widespread criticism about his ability to beat Donald Trump in the 2024 race, Harris's name has been floating around as a potential replacement.
However, she has remained firm in his stance of supporting Biden as the presidential candidate.
Kamala Harris addresses Donald Trump's strategy
In her speech, Harris took aim at the GOP's projected unity during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Here’s the thing, if you claim to stand for unity, you need to do more than just use the word,” she said.
“You cannot claim you stand for unity if you are pushing an agenda that deprives whole groups of Americans of basic freedoms, opportunity, and dignity," the vice president added.
Harris further argued that Trump's selection of Vance is a diversion tactic.
“With the selection of his running mate this week, Donald Trump is trying to distract people," she noted.
"He wants to direct attention away from his record and his Project 2025 plan to suggest that he and his running mate are going to prioritize the middle class. We are not falling for it,” Harris added.
