Kamala Harris' supporters 'love' Newt Gingrich's unconventional idea for Sept 10 debate
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Newt Gingrich recently suggested an unconventional format for an upcoming presidential debate between former president Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The former GOP Speaker of the House proposed that the two candidates engage in a direct debate on C-SPAN, without the involvement of mainstream media, according to HuffPost.

During an appearance on Fox News, Newt Gingrich detailed his innovative debate idea as he said, “I personally think that Trump should offer to debate her on ... C-SPAN and on a straight-up no media."
“She gets to ask him questions. He gets to ask her questions. ... I think the country would find it refreshing to actually have ... two serious potential leaders talk directly to each other," he added.
While Fox News host Sean Hannity expressed skepticism, remarking, “You know that’s not gonna happen,” some left commentators saw potential in Gingrich's debate idea and suggested it could offer an unfiltered exchange between Harris and Trump.
Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's campaigns clash over mic controversy
Newt Gingrich's proposal came amidst ongoing conflict between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's campaigns over the rules for their scheduled debate on September 10 on ABC News.
The Democratic presidential nominee's team has advocated for a format where the candidates' microphones remain on throughout the event to ensure transparency.
However, Trump's campaign has argued in favor of adhering to the originally agreed-upon rules, which include the ability to mute microphones during specific portions of the event.
Donald Trump’s criticism of Kamala Harris
On Monday, August 26, Donald Trump criticized Kamala Harris and ABC News for what he called an attempt to manipulate the presidential debate rules.
The former president accused Harris of avoiding media scrutiny and being unwilling to face tough questions. "When is Comrade Kamala Harris going to start answering questions?" Trump asked.
Labeling Harris a “Radical Left, No Fracking Marxist,” he claimed that the vice president represents “poverty and failure for America.”
The 78-year-old politician also accused her of lacking confidence in her intelligence and suggested that Harris' push for live microphones was a tactic to avoid direct scrutiny.

"That would actually be kinda awesome. The prosecutor getting to direct the felon," a user tweeted, and another commented, "That would be the absolute best debate ever. He's lose his mind and walk off the stage 15 minutes in, OR his handlers would pull him off stage."
