Operations halted amid terminal security sweep
The threat has triggered an immediate freeze of all airport activity, with no planes currently permitted on the tarmac. This total ground stop has effectively suspended both incoming and outgoing flights, disrupting travel plans for thousands of people.
Eyewitnesses at the scene have described a tense atmosphere as agents deploy across the facility. While the evacuation was carried out swiftly, airport officials have not yet provided a specific timeline for when normal operations might resume.
Perimeter secured as roads blocked off
The security perimeter has expanded beyond the terminals, as authorities have blocked all roads leading to the airport entrance from Interstate 29.
All incoming vehicles are being redirected to nearby cell phone lots while the FBI and Kansas City Aviation Department work to substantiate the report.
While the airport is reportedly allowing some arrivals to land, no departures are permitted. Video from the scene shows large crowds of travelers standing outside with their luggage on the tarmac and near the terminal as federal investigators secure the area.
Coordination between federal and local agencies
Safety remains the primary priority as federal and local law enforcement agencies coordinate their search efforts.
As of the latest updates, there have been no reports of injuries or confirmed explosive devices found during the ongoing sweep.
Authorities are instructing all travelers and workers to remain in designated safe zones and follow all official instructions until the facility is cleared.
Travelers impacted by the standstill are advised to contact their respective airlines directly for information regarding flight delays or cancellations.
