SHOW LOW, ARIZONA: Kari Lake, the controversial Republican Senate candidate from Arizona, has found herself at the center of a heated controversy after a video surfaced showing her delivering a speech in front of a Confederate flag at a pro-Trump merchandise store.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from critics across social media. During her speech, Lake repeated debunked claims about the 2020 presidential election being stolen from Donald Trump, as reported by New York Times.

On May 31, Lake addressed a crowd at the Trumped Store, a shop known for its pro-Trump and election-denier merchandise, including Confederate memorabilia.

Footage obtained by The Times shows Lake standing in front of a Confederate battle flag, a symbol that has become synonymous with the Confederacy in the modern era, and reiterating her unfounded claims about the 2020 presidential election.

"I am the only person running for US Senate, either Republican or Democrat, who truly believes there was fraud in the election in 2020 — does anyone else here believe that?" Lake asked the crowd, receiving cheers and applause in response.

She continued, "We are still fighting. We have more fight in us. We have a lot of cases going."

The Trumped Store, where Lake made her speech, sells various items supporting the false notion that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.

The store’s inventory includes 'Trump won' merchandise and items with slogans attacking President Joe Biden, such as 'Let’s Go Brandon' and 'F.J.B.,' which stands for a phrase that includes an expletive.

Following the backlash, Lake's campaign issued a defensive statement: "Kari went to a store. The New York Times published an op-ed from the terrorist organization the Taliban. Do you approve of the Taliban?"

In a separate statement to The Guardian, the campaign added, "The Kari Lake campaign does not respond to British propaganda outlets. We stopped doing that in 1776."

The incident has not only drawn criticism from national media but also from local news outlets in Arizona, which reported on her appearance at the Trumped Store. The location of her speech is particularly notable given Arizona's historical context.

During the Civil War, the New Mexico territory, which included what is now Arizona, saw brief Confederate control before Union forces reclaimed the area and abolished slavery.

The Confederate flag has long been condemned as a symbol of racism and slavery.
