Karol G aims to represent Latin community at Coachella 2026, wants to do more than say ‘ICE Out’
INDIO, CALIFORNIA: Karol G is preparing for a historic Coachella moment, but for her, it’s about much more than just music.
In a recent interview ahead of her performance, the Colombian superstar opened up about using her platform to make a meaningful statement for the Latin community.

Karol G wants her Coachella 2026 moment to represent more than just music
As she gears up to headline Coachella 2026 across two weekends, Karol G made it clear that she is thinking deeply about what she wants to say on that stage.
The singer, who is set to become the first Latina artist to headline the festival, said she feels a strong sense of responsibility toward her community.
“I have a huge stage, and that’s why I want to wait, and if someone was ever to do something to me, I want to stand firmly on my stage for my community,” she said.
“So that’s why I may have to be more careful, and wait for my turn, and ensure that, through that opportunity, I can talk and represent something more,” Karol G added.
Singer reflects on the challenges of speaking out against ICE
The conversation around her Coachella set comes amid ongoing criticism of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, particularly under President Donald Trump's administration.
Karol G acknowledged that speaking out is not always simple, especially for artists with global careers.
“People will say, ‘It’s better you don’t,’” she shared. “Why? Because if you say the thing, maybe the next day you’ll get a call: ‘Hey, we are taking your visa away.’”
The singer pointed out how quickly speaking up can turn into a risk. “You become bait, because some people want to show their power,” she added.
That reality, she explained, is part of why she is being thoughtful about how and when she chooses to make a statement.
Why Karol G doesn’t want to just say ‘ICE Out’
While phrases like “ICE Out” have become popular among celebrities, Karol G said she wants to go beyond that.
“What impact does it really have to say ‘ICE Out’ versus something else that can have a real impact on my community?” she asked.
The singer stressed that she isn’t dismissing the message, but she wants it to carry weight.
“I don’t want to just say ‘ICE Out’ and have nothing come from it,” she said. “I’m probably going to go a little harder than that.”
Karol G added that whatever she does, it has to come from a genuine place. “I just want to represent my community. But what I’m telling you is that, as a human being, I want that to mean more.”
“I’m not saying that I’m not going to do it; what I’m saying is that I would do it and will do it with my soul,” she continued. “But I want to sit down and understand, in my head: Here’s what that meant.”
Karol G is set to take the main stage on Sunday night across both Coachella weekends, following performances by other major headliners.
