WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the raging trade war between the US and China, Zhang Zhisheng, the Chinese Consul General to Denpasar, Indonesia, made a shocking claim about White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s sartorial choices.

Following Trump’s announcement of tariff rates imposed on imported goods from various nations on April 2, a tense trade war broke out between the two nations, with the POTUS slapping 145% tariff rates on China, and the Asian country retaliating with 125%. A recent White House fact sheet has revealed that China may face up to a 245% tariff for its retaliatory measures.

However, amid the escalating trade war, Zhisheng claimed that despite Leavitt’s allegiance to Trump and his administration, the 27-year-old press secretary allegedly wore a red dress made in China for one of her press conferences.

While Karoline Leavitt has often made headlines for her impeccable sartorial choices for her sessions on the White House podium, this time, she has surprisingly come under fire for her fashion choice.

As reported by the Irish Star, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Indonesia took to social media to share an image of Leavitt from her January 31 press conference, where she was seen wearing a red knit mini dress.

Zhisheng claimed in his post that he had been told that the dress is manufactured in a Chinese factory. The Chinese diplomat also shared screenshots of Weibo users claiming the American press secretary’s dress came from a factory in Mabu, China, where they work.

Sharing the images, Zhisheng wrote, "Accusing China is business. Buying China is life. The beautiful lace on the dress was recognized by an employee of a Chinese company as its product.”

While a section of social media users came forward to defend Leavitt, saying that while she was wearing the real dress, the image shown by the former Consul General to Zanzibar, Tanzania, was probably fake.

However, Zhisheng pointed out that the dress was originally from the brand Self Portrait, though registered in the UK, it was created by a Malaysian-Chinese designer. Sharing a screenshot of the listing of the dress, with China being highlighted as the country of its origin, the diplomat wrote, "Self Portrait, brand registered in UK, created by a Malaysian Chinese designer, made in China.”

Karoline Leavitt slammed for allegedly wearing 'Made in China' dress

The Internet had a field day roasting Karoline Leavitt for choosing a dress allegedly made in China.

As the origin of the dress remains under speculation, several social media users called out the White House press secretary's "hypocrisy" amid the trade war between the US and China.

One of the social media users asked on X, "Does Karoline Leavitt think boycotting Chinese products includes the dress she’s wearing, or is that just her personal exception to the rule? 😂"

Someone else noted, "Karoline Leavitt wears Chinese made dress for press conference. This is so hypocritically absurd it would be like if Trump made his crap in China while.....ooooooooh."

"How does Karoline Leavitt manage the crushing irony of slamming "Made in China" while strutting in a gorgeous Chinese-made lace dress at the White House podium?" asked one person.

Another noted, "This is the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wearing clothing expertly made in China whilst complaining about everything being made in China. If made in America was so good, why is she wearing a Chinese-made dress?"

"So White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt is boycotting Chinese products while wearing a dress made in China. 😝," pointed out one netizen.

Someone else added, "Breaking: This should be the question to Karoline Leavitt today by White House correspondents. So much fun and irony."

One individual declared, "She knows that China produces the best money for value clothes.. that's why she is wearing it PROUDLY."

"You can have four possible answers. Which one do you think is the most logical?” 1.She knows where it was made and she’s okay with it. 2.She doesn’t know where it was made, she just thinks it looks good," another added.

One citizen noted, "Our whole admin is disgusting. Thank you for pointing out Leavitt's hypocrisy."
