WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt sparked online mockery during her appearance on Fox News 'Fox & Friends' on Tuesday, March 4, as she mistakenly said dead firefighter Corey Comperatore will attend the POTUS' joint address to Congress.

The press secretary attended the show to discuss Trump’s joint address to Congress and also advertised the White House guest list, which she claimed would feature "everyday Americans", according to Daily Beast.

While advertising the White House guest list, Leavitt named dead firefighter Corey Comperatore, and in the same breath she seemed to suggest Comperatore, who was martyred in the crossfire of Trump’s assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July, would accompany his fellow "everyday Americans", per the outlet.

Notably, Leavitt’s speech started with compliments to President Trump and first lady Melania. She said, "The first lady will be in attendance tonight and the guest list that she put together, and President Trump put together, is phenomenal. There will be everyday American heroes in attendance."

She continued, "Stephanie Diller, whom you mentioned too, lost her husband in the line of duty at the hands of an illegal immigrant. You have Marc Fogel, who of course because of President Trump’s peace through strength efforts returned from Russian captivity. Corey Comperatore, who lost his life protecting his family in Butler, Pennsylvania."

Interestingly, Leavitt did not seem to have caught her mistake as she continued speaking about the list. She added, "You’ll also have an auto worker, you’ll have a steel worker, and you will see exceptional Americans with great stories. President Trump will be telling their stories tonight."

The former volunteer fire chief was killed during July’s assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year. His wife told the BBC in October 2024 that she was furious about the security failures that led to her husband’s killing by a rooftop gunman.

Comperatore died after he was shot as he dived on members of his family to protect them as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks opened fire at Trump.

His wife Helen told the outlet at the time that she wasn't able to stop replaying the events of the tragic day in her mind. She said, "I see it every time I close my eyes, and probably will for a long time."

She added, "I'm angry because there were a lot of mistakes made that day, and it didn't have to happen."

Internet trolls Karoline Leavitt for her error in speech

A user wrote on X, "She is saying so many things each day, she must be right at least once soon!" while one added, "This woman is not well."

A person also stated, "We are dealing with highschool drop outs. That is who is running the USA. The dropouts of the world," whereas one mentioned, "The lies just flow so easy that they don’t even feel it anymore."

A user also wrote, "She sees dead people" while one commented, "The problem is nobody calls these ppl out when they say dumb s***. She didn’t stutter or realize lol."
