WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sharply criticized New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani accusing him of irresponsibly suggesting that President Donald Trump was connected to the Election Day bomb threats that disrupted polling stations.

Leavitt called Mamdani’s remarks “completely irresponsible,” adding that it was disappointing to hear such statements from “someone at the top of the ticket on Election Day.” She reiterated that Trump had “absolutely nothing to do with the situation."

The Democratic socialist candidate made his comments while campaigning in New York. Speaking to reporters about the bomb threats that temporarily shut down several polling locations in New Jersey, Mamdani implied that the incidents reflected the “general approach the Trump administration has taken to trying to intimidate voters.”

“It’s incredibly concerning, and I think that it is an illustration of the attacks we’re seeing on our democracy,” Mamdani said. “We have to understand this as part of the general approach the Trump administration has taken to trying to intimidate voters with baseless allegations of voter fraud as a means of trying to repress the voice of Americans across this country,” he added.

In response, Leavitt firmly rejected Mamdani’s suggestion and warned against spreading false or misleading claims for political gain. “I think they are completely irresponsible, and they are based on zero evidence,” she told Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich.

“This is just another example of how the Democratic Party unfortunately stands for nothing. All they stand against is President Donald Trump. It’s quite sad to see that we have someone at the top of the ticket on an Election Day saying such things about the president, when he obviously had absolutely nothing to do with those threats,” Leavitt added.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Leavitt doubled down, saying, “It’s unfortunate to see a public figure use fear and misinformation on a day meant for civic participation.”

Bomb threats disrupt polling stations across New Jersey

Election Day in New Jersey took an unexpected turn when bomb threats forced several polling stations across seven counties to close temporarily. Attorney General Matthew Platkin confirmed that “law enforcement responded to threats received by email in several different counties.”

According to NBC News, 67 polling places and ballot-counting sites across 19 counties received threats. Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way stated, “We are aware of threats made to several polling locations in New Jersey. Law enforcement has determined that there are no credible threats at this time.”

Authorities later declared the threats hoaxes, but the temporary evacuations caused confusion and brief delays for voters.
