Kash Patel slams 'false' attacks on FBI over James Comey investigation: 'Hypocrisy on steroids'

WASHINGTON, DC: FBI Director Kash Patel issued a strong defense of the Trump administration’s prosecution of former FBI chief James Comey following his indictment this week.
Patel directed sharp criticism at media outlets, accusing them of spreading false narratives to discredit the investigation.
Comey, who clashed with former President Donald Trump throughout his first term, is now facing charges of false statements and obstruction of justice.
Career FBI agents, intel analysts, and staff led the investigation into Comey and others. They called the balls and strikes and will continue to do so. The wildly false accusations attacking this FBI for the politicization of law enforcement comes from the same bankrupt media…

Kash Patel defends FBI probe into James Comey case
Patel, in a Friday morning post on X, praised the bureau’s work and rejected claims that politics were driving the case.
“Career FBI agents, intel analysts, and staff led the investigation into Comey and others. They called the balls and strikes and will continue to do so,” wrote Patel.
He added that attacks on the bureau come from “the same bankrupt media that sold the world on Russia Gate — it’s hypocrisy on steroids.”
Patel argued that the criticism proved investigators were on the right path.
“Their baseless objections tell us now, more than ever, that we are precisely over the target and will remain on mission until completion,” he wrote. “Thank you to this brave FBI team. Mission First.”
James Comey indicted on obstruction and false statements charges
A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia indicted Comey on Thursday. He faces one count of making false statements and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath to Congress.
The indictment followed repeated calls from Trump for accountability. Just days before the charges were announced, Trump wrote on Truth Social, urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue cases against Comey and other critics.
Pam Bondi, meanwhile, said no one is above the law in the James Comey case. Reacting to the indictment on X, she stressed the Department of Justice’s commitment to oversight.
No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.

“No one is above the law,” Bondi wrote Thursday evening. “Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.”
Donald Trump’s long-running feud with James Comey resurfaces
The indictment renews focus on the bitter history between Trump and Comey.
Trump fired him as FBI director in 2017, shortly after Comey confirmed the president was under investigation for possible campaign ties to Russia.
Comey became one of Trump’s most vocal critics afterward, calling him “morally unfit” for office.
His dismissal led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel in the Russia investigation, which found multiple campaign contacts with Russian officials but concluded there was insufficient evidence to charge a criminal conspiracy.
Meanwhile, Trump said, "It's about justice really, it's not revenge," when asked how he saw Comey's indictiment.

"It's also about the fact that you can't let this go on. They are sick, radical left people, and they can't get away with it and Comey was one of the people," Trump added while departing White House.
"He wasn't the biggest, but he's a dirty cop," Trump added. "He's always been a dirty cop. Everybody knew it."
