LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kate Middleton, who recently announced her remission from cancer, has revealed that she chose to forgo a procedure designed to prevent hair loss during her battle with the disease.

For cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, one option is wearing a cold cap, which helps reduce hair loss by cooling the scalp.

However, the cold cap can also limit the effectiveness of chemotherapy by reducing blood flow to the scalp and, in turn, lowering the amount of medication reaching that area. To shed more light on Middleton's decision, let's hear from a patient she recently visited.

Kate Middleton’s conversation with patient Katherine Field

During a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, Kate Middleton shared with a patient that she underwent chemotherapy without using the cold cap.

According to Radar Online, 45-year-old patient Katherine Field was wearing a cold cap during her chemotherapy session when she spoke with the Duchess.

Field provided details of their conversation, recalling that Kate explained she didn’t use the cap because she felt it was unnecessary. Field quoted Kate, saying, "She just said that she didn’t have to have it. For her to lose her hair, which is so iconic, would have been awful. Everyone loves her hair!"

Field described how comforting it was to meet Middleton, saying their conversation felt "just like talking to a friend about a really horrible time in life."

She added, "She’s warm, and it just felt like sitting with a girlfriend having a chat, which is pretty hard to achieve in those circumstances. She is very special – to be able to connect with people so quickly and so empathetically."

Field also shared that Middleton spoke about how she became deeply attached to her chemotherapy port during her treatment. The port is an implantable device that allows treatment to be delivered directly into a vein.

Kate Middleton's remission has overjoyed King Charles

Kate Middleton’s recent meeting with a patient came shortly after she revealed that she is now in remission, four months following her cancer treatment.

She confirmed the news on her Instagram page, expressing her gratitude: “[I] wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year. My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.”

She also spoke about her new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, saying, “My hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”

Following her announcement, a source revealed that King Charles was "naturally overjoyed" by Kate’s recovery, citing several reasons for his happiness. "On a pragmatic level, he says the monarchy is now in rude health and in safe hands for another generation," the source said.

The comment continued, noting, "Kate and William are internationally famous and she is box office for the Royal Family. There have been so many distractions with Harry and Meghan over the last few years and he is completely sick of what he calls their fame-seeking sideshow."
