Who else won in the women’s 800-meter freestyle?

Ariarne Titmus of Australia won silver, and Paige Madden of Team USA made it to the podium with a bronze medal.

Ledecky won her 14th Olympic medal at Paris’s La Defense Arena, her fourth consecutive gold in the women’s 800-meter freestyle. Her record was 8:04.79 at the event, and she was registered in Rio in 2016, reported People.

Ledecky improved her record and, a couple of days ago became the most decorated female American Olympian with a silver medal finish in the women’s 4x200-meter freestyle relay alongside Erin Gemmell, Paige Madden, and Claire Weinstein.

“I try not to think about the history very much. So it’s just an honor to be named among them. And I’m grateful for them inspiring me,” Ledecky said on Wednesday, July 31.

The 27-year-old is the world record holder in two events, and three in the Olympics, with the latest coming here in Paris on July 31 in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle (15:30.02).

Latynina, with whom Ledecky now shares a title, made her Olympic debut at 21 in the 1956 Melbourne Games. For years, she was the only Olympic athlete to have won 18 medals, until Michael Phelps broke her record in 2012.
