Bravo star Katie Maloney got her big break on television when she joined the 'Vanderpump Rules' cast as the reality show premiered in January 2013. Maloney's chemistry with her former spouse Tom Schwartz was one of the talking points of the show until their divorce in 2022. Here's a look at the icon's 10-year journey on the hit show.
2013
Katie Maloney joined the cast of 'Vanderpump Rules' in 2013 when she was just 26 years of age. In an interview with Reality Wanted, the former Sur employee opened up about her initial impression of the show, saying, "I was signing on with all of my best friends, and the people I was closest with. That kind of gave me that confidence that it would be a positive experience and we'd all be there for each other. I figured it was an opportunity! Who works at a restaurant and gets to be on a tv show?"
2015
Katie Maloney, known for her clear skin and glossy hair, admitted during an interview in 2015 that she liked to be complimented. Maloney said in an interview with XEXMagazine, "Honestly, when I get complimented, especially when it catches me off guard a little bit. Whether it’s your boyfriend or a stranger on the street, a compliment is always a nice stroke to the ego and feels really good. There’s nothing that makes you feel more beautiful than when someone else tells you that you’re beautiful."
2017
Katie Maloney married Tom Schwartz in front of their families in 2016. "I'm so happy to have married my best friend, and love that I finally get to call Tom my husband," Maloney said at the time. However, it was later realized that the marriage wasn't legalized. The couple rectified the mistake in 2019 and hosted a second marriage ceremony in Las Vegas.
2018
In 2018, a comment made about Maloney's weight created much drama on 'Vanderpump Rules'. On an episode of the show, Lisa Vanderpump's party planner Kevin Lee told Maloney, “You were much thinner than this. You gained a little bit of weight. You have to work on it. Seriously, I’m telling you as a friend. It’s out of control now. I can tell.” The comment made Maloney visibly upset, reports Page Six.
2020
Katie Maloney seemed to have lost weight during a virtual reunion of 'Vanderpump Rules'. During that time, while discussing her weight loss, she told a fan, "I’ve lost a little over 20 pounds." Maloney explained, "I thought it was a thyroid thing, so I was going to the doctor and getting blood work done," before adding that her nutritionist has helped her “understand how to eat for my metabolism, especially with being insulin resistant or insulin-sensitive." While she said she was "not dieting," she admitted, “Now I just have a great understanding on nutrition and what kinds of food I should and shouldn’t be eating," per People.
2021
In 2021, Maloney revealed during an episode of the reality show that she had an abortion during the early days of her relationship with her ex-husband Tom Schwartz. As she visited a fertility clinic and was asked whether she had been pregnant before, she replied recalling to have undergone the process a decade before, “I knew I wanted to have kids. But I just knew that was not the time in my life." She added, “And now, it’s something that we are ready for when it happens,” per Page Six.
2022
Following her divorce from Tom Schwartz in March 2022, Maloney revealed to Page Six in October 2022 that she was casually dating a 25-year-old. The then 35-year-old Maloney said, “There’s a guy who’s, like, 25 that I’ve been hanging with. It’s fun,” before adding, “Single girl Katie is having a good time. . . It’s just casual. It’s just fun. I haven’t been single since I was 24, and the landscape is totally different.”
2023
A few fans speculated in 2023 whether Maloney went under the knife. While she did not publicly address the speculation of plastic surgery, she opened up about her support for the drug Ozempic, which is intended for people suffering from type 2 diabetes, saying, “I say everyone do what you want to do,” before adding, “Understand the risks, and if it’s right for you, it’s right for you. I think the expectations [for women to be thin] are always going be there whether or not there’s like this miracle drug or not. The pressures are always going to be there. … But I just think, you know, if it makes you happy, follow your bliss,” per People.
