WASHINGTON, DC: Katie Miller has spoken out against rumors about her husband, Stephen Miller, that came up after the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner (WHCD).

She said that he did not use her as a "human shield." After a video from the event went viral, people started to wonder what they did during the evacuation.

The event happened at the Washington Hilton, where a gunman opened fire. Security quickly responded and evacuated everyone. Video from the scene showed Stephen Miller walking next to his pregnant wife as they left the venue, which got people talking on social media.

Speaking about the moment, Katie Miller said the situation unfolded quickly as security personnel began moving attendees out of the area.

Katie explained that Miller was not going to put his hand on her stomach "because that’s where our baby is".

She recounted the fateful evening, speaking of the time when their security detail came over and she realized that the shooting incident was serious and that they'd need to exit.

Katie went on to say that she understood the need for a speedy exit at that point, but needed help even getting off the floor, noting that she's eight months pregnant.

“So, my dear husband lifts me up,” Katie said, explaining how their security detail had instructed that she go first.

“How do you stand up eight months pregnant from the floor? You really can't without help. So my dear husband lifts me up.”

“I went first because the threat was behind us. And so what everyone sees is my husband maybe copying a feel, but what I would say is that... that he wasn't going to put his hands on my stomach because that's where our baby is.”

Dismisses ‘human shield’ and other claims

Katie Miller rejected claims that her husband used her as a shield, describing such interpretations as inaccurate.

“They really can't let Stephen Miller have a good news cycle. You know, he's done so much for this country thanks to President Trump.”

“President Trump has been at the forefront of changing this country and fulfilling every single campaign promise.”

Later that evening, a visit to social media made it clear that people were talking about the moment Katie shared.

She went on to detail how she'd asked her husband, “Did you really need to do that,” and he had asked her back, “What did I do?”

“I would say Stephen did a phenomenal job, and he was behind me and protecting not only me, but our baby.”
