LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Katie Thurston has shared details about her ongoing cancer treatment after revealing that her breast cancer has metastasized to her liver.

In an Instagram Q&A on March 28, the 34-year-old reality star explained that her treatment will consist of six rounds of chemotherapy, spaced three weeks apart.

Each session involves travel, infusions, and recovery time.

Thurston also noted that her husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, will likely miss the first three sessions due to scheduling conflicts.

However, she remained optimistic, stating that if she feels well enough, she can still travel to meet him the day after treatment.

Thurston’s diagnosis was announced just one week after her wedding.

She shared in an emotional Instagram video that her breast cancer had spread to her liver.

“It is fairly small; however, it does put me at stage four,” she explained.

Despite this progression, Thurston clarified that her treatment plan remains largely the same, as the cancer in her liver originated from her breast cancer rather than being a new form of cancer.

"The cancer that is within the liver is from the breast cancer spreading vs. a new type of cancer,” she stated.

“So in basic terms, my breast cancer is the root and will be the focus. Six rounds of chemo to start,” she added.

Katie Thurston's fertility preservation

As part of her treatment, Thurston is using Zoladex, a medication that helps preserve fertility by temporarily shutting down ovarian function.

She described the process as putting her ovaries into “hibernation” to protect them from chemotherapy’s effects.

Additionally, Zoladex reduces estrogen production, which is significant for hormone receptor-positive (ER+/PR+) breast cancer, as estrogen can stimulate cancer growth.

“I iced my stomach for three minutes before they did the injection. Painless, all things considered. No symptoms that I noticed either,” she shared with her followers.

Katie Thurston is considering surrogacy for the future

Thurston also revealed that she and Arcuri have had discussions about family planning and the likelihood of using a surrogate in the future.

“Jeff and I discussed the importance of my health and that when the time comes, surrogacy will likely be the best option for us,” she stated.

She ended her message with a reminder to the public, “A friendly reminder to stop judging celebrities who pursue surrogacy because you don’t know what they have going on in their personal lives.”
