Keefe D Davis: Bail for suspect in Tupac Shakur murder case set at $750K, house arrest ordered if freed
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: The case of Duane Keefe D Davis is still pending. Before his trial, the man suspected of planning Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder was recently offered $750,000 in bail and house arrest with electronic monitoring.
On Tuesday, January 9, Clark County District Judge Carlie Kierny rendered this judgment.
Although the total bail amount is significantly higher than the $100,000 that Davis' court-appointed attorneys initially requested that they are optimistic Keefe D will be able to pay it.
Keefe D 'consistently admitted to being architect of murder'
According to Steve Wolfson, the district attorney for Clark County, Kierny is expected to set up a 'source hearing' to determine whether or not the bail money was obtained legally.
Additionally, Keefe D's lawyers informed Judge Kierny that they might have to reschedule the June trial date since they needed to prepare a defense that would take into account two decades' worth of evidence.
Although a new date wasn't decided upon, Kierny booked a status check for February 20. It looks like Duane "Keefe D" Davis will have a difficult time winning this case, according to 8 News NOW reported.
Binu Palal and Marc DiGiacomo, the prosecution, contended that he has never strayed from gang life.
They go on to say that his confessions over the past 15 years regarding Tupac's murder demonstrate his guilt and that a phone call he made in October from jail may have damaged the reputation of case witnesses.
“There is one constant,” Palal said to Clark County District Judge Carlie Kierny. “Mr. Davis has consistently admitted to being [the] architect of the murder.”
The fact that Keefe D has 'made a living' by talking about his time as the South Side Crips' leader in Compton and the detailed accounts of Pac's death, Judge Kierny based her decision on.
After years of investigation, he was taken into custody in Las Vegas back in September on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon.
Internet questions about bail
As soon as the bail was granted offering $750K and allowing house arrest, internet users startred questioning the juridiction. One wrote on X (previously known as Twitter), "Has the Justice system fail, why was he granted bail?"
