LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her mental health state following her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
The 41-year-old 'Since U Been Gone' singer and talk show host told People that she had to go to therapy to cope with her depression and that music was her outlet for healing.
How did music become Kelly Clarkson's outlet for healing?
The 'My Life Would Suck Without You' singer revealed that it was hard for her after the divorce which made her feel alone, but then she had a healthy outlet in the form of music which she termed as a kind of therapy.
"The level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard," Clarkson told People.
"You feel alone, and it's just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming," she added.
She poured her heart out into songs that reflected her journey of recovery. “I didn’t see it other than: This is my outlet. I’m a let-go person; I don’t hold grudges. So it was really delving into what happened in my life and why—and what am I going to do about it?” she said.
One of the songs that helped her heal was Chemistry, which she said was about “taking my power back."

Clarkson also talked about a magical moment when her daughter River Rose, nine, and son Remington Alexander, seven, joined her on stage at her Las Vegas residency in August.
The 'Piece By Piece' singer said that it was their idea and that they were a little nervous but happy and at ease. “They were just in awe,” she recalled. Clarkson, who is also an ambassador for Wayfair, said that she is grateful for new beginnings and that life can be beautiful even when it doesn’t go as planned.
“Sometimes you don’t know what life has in store for you, and you think your life is going to go one way, and it’s OK that it doesn’t,” she said.
“You never know how beautiful that might be," she added.
