Kim Kardashian blasted as she promotes SKIMS winter sale amid Los Angeles wildfires: ‘Read the room’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kim Kardashian has come under immense criticism after her apparel brand SKIMS made a social media post promoting its winter sale amid the devastating Los Angeles fire.
The brush fire, which started on Tuesday, January 7, has been burning incessantly and spreading to multiple locations. Since then, the blazing conflagration has forced the displacement of more than 130,000 people who have had to evacuate their homes in search of safety.
But as the 44-year-old ‘The Kardashians’ star’s clothing brand made the promotional post, fans asked her to “read the room".
Several social media users reminded the star that a natural disaster had taken place and urged her to donate money for the victims and firefighters, instead of posting on Instagram, reported Daily Mail.

Kim Kardashian's SKIMS made one of the first posts on Wednesday, January 8, promoting the sale, just hours after the Los Angeles inferno started blazing on Tuesday.
In one of the posts, the brand wrote, “THE WINTER SALE STARTS TOMORROW. Set your alarm to shop the first major event of the year with up to 50% off your favorite SKIMS collections. The Winter Sale starts tomorrow, January 9 at 7AM PT / 10AM ET..”

As the Palisades fire further spread to multiple other locations, including Acton, Easton, and Lidia, among others, the brand’s Instagram came up with another post pushing the winter sale.
They wrote, “THE WINTER SALE IS HERE. Shop up to 50% off select best-selling collections and start 2025 looking your best in SKIMS.”

However, soon social media users took to the comment section to ask the mother-of-four whether it was the right time to promote SKIMS.
The billionaire businesswoman received further heat on her personal Instagram account as well, when she shared a carousel of behind-the-scene pictures from the sets of her ‘Santa Baby’ shoot.
Her post, featuring multiple still photographs from the set, read, “BTS ya’ filthy animals!”

Kim, who was silent on the previous days, later took to her Instagram Stories to share that she and her clothing brand have made multiple donations.
In one of her Instagram Stories on Friday, January 10, she wrote, “As our community faces the devastation of the Los Angeles fires, our hearts are with all those impacted, and we are committed to helping during this challenging time."
She also noted that her brand SKIMS, which was previously criticized for promoting their winter sale, has also donated “critical resources” to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
“We have donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation providing critical resources to the heroic first responders protecting our city," she said.
"Additionally, we are making a sizable donation of underwear, clothing, and socks to Baby2Baby to help those displaced by the fires," added the star.
“Together, we can bring hope and relief to those who need it most,” Kim penned.
Kim Kardashian and SKIMS' posts receive severe backlash
The posts made on SKIMS' Instagram instantly drew flak from social media users who slammed Kim Kardashian for promoting her brand amid the Los Angeles fire.
One user bashed her, referencing her sister Kourtney Kardashian's famous dialogue from their reality TV series, 'Keeping Up with The Kardashians', "Kim there’s people that are dying 🔥."
Another user said, "Kim, girl, can you just donate this clothes to people that need it in LA right now?"
"Imagine still promoting a sale when LA is burning and people are losing their homes," penned the third user.
"LA is burning but we need to buy skims 🙄," shared someone else.
Another user questioned, "Is this really the time 🏡🔥."
Kardashian's post on her personal Instagram account too garnered equal backlash as she shared a plethora of behind-the-scene pictures from her 'Santa Baby' song around the same time. Though according to some users, the post was made a few hours before the fire broke out on January 7, a section of netizens slammed her for the post.
One person said, "Girl read the room, there’s a fire going on outside!"
Another user added, "How about you donate $ to help others. Like selena Gomez donated 5 million."
"Kim the world is ON FIRE practically and this is what’s important to you RN?!?!? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬," said one person.
Another noted, "Why don’t you donate money? All the millions you make your family should do more."
"The cities burning down and you post this… lol," added another disgruntled user.
