Kris Jenner's mother Mary Jo 'MJ' Campbell's cause of death revealed nearly two weeks after passing
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kris Jenner’s mother, Mary Jo 'MJ' Campbell, died at the age of 91 on Thursday, July 16, with her death certificate now revealing her cause of death and additional details surrounding her passing.
Jenner announced her mother’s death the same day in an emotional Instagram tribute, describing her as "the heart of our family" and reflecting on the lasting impact she had on her children and grandchildren.

MJ's cause of death was revealed to be acute cardiopulmonary arrest.
According to the death certificate obtained by Us Weekly on Tuesday, July 28, other conditions that contributed to her death included acute respiratory failure and metastatic lung cancer, which she had been battling for months.
The family matriarch died at a Los Angeles hospital on July 16 and was cremated on July 23, according to the death certificate, which also noted that no autopsy was performed.
Kris announced her mother’s passing, writing, “Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ.”
She further said, “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye.” She also described her mother as “the heart of our family.”
Kris continued, “She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments, she showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith.”
She also thanked her mother for “every sacrifice [she] made, every piece of wisdom [she] shared, and every moment [she] loved [the family] so completely.”
Her daughters, Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian, liked the tribute, while several members of the Kardashian-Jenner family also shared their own messages in honor of MJ. Kim Kardashian initially faced criticism after a pre-scheduled social media post from her vacation appeared on the day of Campbell’s death.

Kris often spoke publicly about the close bond she shared with her mother. During an appearance on Jay Shetty’s 'On Purpose' podcast in November, she revealed, “I talk to her every day on the phone," explaining that they discussed “everything.”
“We help each other with what we’re going to watch. She loves Dateline as much as I do,” she said, adding, “So, we’re like, ‘What murder mystery are we going to watch tonight?’ And then she’ll say, ‘Okay, I was sad today. So, we’re going to watch a comedy.’ We have great fun just, you know, doing that together.”
Kris also shared that her mother remained fiercely independent despite her age.
“She lives a mile from my house. I try to get her to move in with me, but she refuses. She’s so independent, which I admire and love.”
Jenner explained that MJ also lived “part-time in La Jolla, near San Diego.”
MJ was also known as a devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren.
In her July 16 tribute, Kris wrote, “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”
She continued, “Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely. I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us."
