Lady Gaga credits fiance Michael Polansky for upcoming album as he inspired her to ‘make pop music’ again
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lady Gaga is making a grand return to pop music, and her secret weapon? Her fiance, Michael Polansky.
In a stunning Vogue interview for their October cover, Gaga reveals how Polansky’s passionate push reignited her creative flame, leading to her highly anticipated album, 'LG7'.
“Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,’” Gaga said, while waxing eloquent on the man behind her musical renaissance.
Although the seventh album’s title is still under wraps, it’s slated for a February 2025 release, with a tantalizing first single dropping in October. Her sixth album 'Chromatica' had released on May 29, 2020.
According to Vogue's writer, the track Gaga played for them was described as an “intense and ominous... old-school Gaga banger, unsettling but also buoyant.”
Michael Polansky wants to help keep Lady Gaga’s 'fire' alive
Michael Polansky, who has been a constant source of support for Lady Gaga, told the outlet, “Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean into the joy of it. On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”
"There's a lot of pain associated with this adventure," the 'Bloody Mary' singer said about the album.
"And when I start to explore that pain it can bring out another side to my artistry. When I'm here at this studio [Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La], I'm relaxed and I am able to face my demons and what's remarkable is ... that's the music. I'm able to hear it back."
Lady Gaga introduces Michael Polansky as 'fiance' at 2024 Paris Olympics
Lady Gaga reminisced about their first encounter, just before the world was rocked by the Covid-19 pandemic. Polansky met Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, in 2019 during a philanthropic event with the Born This Way Foundation.
“My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband,’ and I said, ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband!’ I could never have imagined that my mom... found the most perfect person for me?” Gaga recalled.
The couple kept their romance under wraps until making a grand entrance together at the Venice Film Festival for Gaga’s upcoming film, 'Joker: Folie a Deux'. Gaga confirmed her engagement to Polansky at the 2024 Paris Olympics, introducing him to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal as “my fiance", with the moment quickly going viral.
“I had never met anyone like Michael. He’s so smart and so kind. And his life and my life are very different. He’s a very private guy and he’s not with me for any other reason than that we are right for each other. But I think what I want my fans to know is that I’m just, like, so happy,” Gaga said.
She reflected on her struggles during 'Chromatica', revealing how Polansky's unwavering support helped her through a “really dark place".
"I struggled for, like, many years before that. But everything started to change. Because I had a real friend who saw the ways in which I was unhappy and why. And he wasn't afraid to truly hold my hand. And get to know me. On a very deep level."
Michael Polansky pops question to Lady Gaga during rock-climbing adventure
Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky's bond deepened through long phone conversations before lockdowns and a shared stay at her Malibu house, where they enjoyed a “weird kind of normalcy".
Fast forward nearly five years, and Polansky proposed after a day of rock climbing in April, proving that their love story is as epic as Gaga’s pop comeback.
“I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I got to completely focus on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving human being who wanted to get to know me—outside of Lady Gaga,” she said, celebrating Polansky as the rock behind her pop renaissance.
