NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham told GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance that he was 'really funny,' even as she noted that he was not polling high on favorability, during an interview on the Tuesday, September 3 of 'The Ingraham Angle.'

The Ohio Senator reportedly has had difficulty connecting with voters since he was chosen by former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump as his running mate in July. According to Mediaite, he became the first VP nominee with a net negative approval rating in multiple polls in over four decades.

Vance's comments about "childless cat ladies" have earned him criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike. His awkward interaction with a donut shop worker that went viral online, as well as his effort to troll Vice President Kamala Harris using a 17-year-old clip of a teen beauty pageant contestant struggling to give a response during a contest, further hurt his likeability.

Laura Ingraham and JD Vance's conversation on low ratings

Ingraham brought up Vance's polling numbers during the Tuesday interview, saying, "I guess they do these polls and say, ‘Oh your favorability isn’t as high as Tim Walz’s is.'"

"There’s a gender gap for your ticket compared to Harris and Walz. How do you go to the undecideds at this point – the shrinking pool of people – and convince them no not only are you serious and you’re seriously smart, but you’re a regular person?" she inquired, adding, "I’ve known you for a long time. You’re really fun. You’re really funny.”

“Laura, my approach to this is just to get out there and meet as many people as possible. And I know this is Donald Trump’s approach, too," replied the Senator.

"We don’t do the scripted stuff. We don’t only speak in front of the teleprompter. We actually like to get out there and give some unscripted remarks, some press conferences, and also just go out there and talk to people. And that’s what I’m gonna keep on doing, Laura."

"I don’t put much stock in the polls – even the polls that show us ahead,” he quipped.

Internet calls JD Vance 'lame and weird'

Netizens reacting to Laura Ingraham's comments on Vance on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) trolled the latter, refusing to believe that he was funny. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent take.

"If you have to tell people he's smart and funny and normal, he may not actually be any of those things," wrote a person.

"Weirdo with a beardo," quipped another.

"If you have to tell someone they're really funny twice, don't invite that person to any party. They're lame and weird af," stated a third.

"If Laura Ingraham thinks you are normal, you are actually really really weird," jibed a fourth.

"Ingraham has no sense of humor that we are aware of. Unless it’s someone kicking a poor person who’s fallen down, she doesn’t find anything funny," slammed a fifth.

"Trying to sell Vance as likable is the most pathetic and cringeworthy effort of 2024. And by the massively repulsive Ingraham. Yikes," expressed yet another.
