During the interview, Donald Trump also claimed that the US doesn't require Canada’s lumber or automotive manufacturing exports, per the outlet.

Interestingly, he made these comments amid a global trade war after signing orders to implement near-universal tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico coming to the US on February 1.

During the interview, Ingraham asked Trump why he was "tougher" on Canada as compared to some of the US' biggest adversaries.

Trump responded that Canada is supposed to be the United States' 51st state. The Fox News host pushed back and further asked about America needing Canada with their "territorial advantage."

She also asked the president about how he feels about Canada potentially getting close to China.

Trump then talked about Canada being "one of the nastiest countries to deal with" and called former prime minister Justin Trudeau's people "nasty".

He said that "they never told the truth," before adding that they said they charged "tremendous" tariffs.

Trump  continued, "If you look at dairy products, what they’ve done to our farmers — I’d go up to Iowa, I’d go up to different places, Nebraska — and they would always complain about Canada, how they get ripped off."

Ingraham reminded the president that the deficit was $60 million. To which, Trump replied that it was "much more" than that.

The Fox News host then said that she didn't think so, however, Trump interjected that America "subsidizes Canada," adding that he loves the country.
