'Lean Back' rapper Remy Ma vows to 'reveal the truth' after son Jayson Scott’s arrest for 2021 NYC murder
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jayson Scott, son of 'Lean Back' rapper Remy Ma, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2021 fatal shooting of Darius Guillebeaux.
Scott, 23, was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 18, along with Richard Swygert, who was also implicated in the murder.
He faces additional charges including second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.
Meanwhile, Swygert, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Remy Ma says she will ‘stand by Jayson’s innocence’
After his arrest, Remy Ma stated, "We stand by JaySon’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth," as reported by PageSix.
Remy then pleaded for privacy until Scott’s innocence is proven. “This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon’s innocence,” she said.
In a statement from Dawn Florio, the lawyer for Remy’s son, the matriarch continued, “As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case.”
What happened to Darius Guillebeaux in 2021?
Guillebeaux was shot and killed by two men in Queens, NY, in June 2021.
Police reported that the assailants opened fire at 148th St. and Rockaway Blvd. in South Jamaica, hitting Guillebeaux multiple times in the head and chest.
Guillebeaux was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the age of 47, as reported by the New York Daily News.
The victim had a lengthy criminal record, having served three years in state prison for drug sales and robbery. He was released in 2017 after four years in prison. According to PageSix, Scott and Swygert were allegedly hired to kill Guillebeaux.

Scott has also made occasional appearances with his mother on reality TV.
Remy, who began her career as a member of the 'Terror Squad' rap group in 1998 with artists like Fat Joe and Big Pun, has had her own legal challenges.
She served six years in prison for a 2007 shooting in New York, where she was convicted on charges of assault, weapons possession, and attempted coercion, as reported by People.
