WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended President Donald Trump's recently completed renovation of the Lincoln Bathroom at the White House, calling it “more elegant and beautiful for generations of Americans to come."

Leavitt, 28, described her initial reaction to the bathroom’s previous design as one of shock. “When I first learned a toilet like that existed inside the White House, I was horrified,” she told reporters. She took to her X account to highlight the transformation.

Leavitt referred to the previous light green water closet, installed during President Harry Truman’s administration, as outdated and historically incongruent with the Lincoln era. She praised Trump’s choice to replace it with a marble-laden, gold-finished design, consistent with his other lavish renovations in the White House.

Earlier, on October 15, at a donor dinner for his new ballroom project, Trump said, “The bathroom was done by the Truman family. It’s done in a green tile style that was not exactly Lincoln. It’s Art Deco, which doesn’t go with 1850 or the Civil War era. So I ripped it apart and built a bathroom absolutely gorgeous and totally in keeping with that time.”

He added, “This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”

Trump declares new design historically appropriate for Lincoln era

The redesigned Lincoln Bathroom is now a gilded reflection of Trump’s tastes. Gold finishes cover nearly every fixture, including shower heads, vent covers, towel racks, hooks, light sconces, and even trash cans. The white Italian marble used is traditionally reserved for sculpture, underscoring the opulent upgrade.

Trump emphasized that the renovation was historically considerate, contrasting the old Art Deco style with the new marble design. Supporters praised the attention to historical detail.
