Leavitt's post hit with Community Notes after she claims 80–90 percent Americans back Iran war

The note pointed out that the White House article shared by Karoline Leavitt 'skews the data and misrepresents America’s views as a whole'

WASHINGTON, DC: White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is facing online ridicule after claiming that most Americans support the war in Iran.

On Thursday, March 19, she posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Americans Agree that Operation Epic Fury Is an Overwhelming Success,” and shared a link to a White House article with polls showing 80-90% of respondents backing the operation.

Karoline Leavitt accused of misrepresenting Americans’ views

Karoline Leavitt’s post relied only on polls of MAGA supporters or Republicans in favor of the war, not the wider public, according to X's Community Notes.

The note read, “The White House’s polls mentioned in the link only refer to MAGA Republicans or Republicans being in favor of the war, not the broader American public. This excludes Democrats and Independents being polled, which skews the data and misrepresents America’s views as a whole.”

Leavitt also faced criticism from many other users. Journalist Mehdi Hasan wrote, “She is linking to an article showing only MAGA Republicans support the war, and then claiming ‘Americans agree’ with it. Her own link shows her to be a liar. She’s a proud and open liar. Reporters should treat her as such.”

A conservative account with over 185,000 followers, The Patriot Voice, responded angrily: "No the hell we do not, Stop Gaslighting us."

Another right-wing user, ConservativeG99, said, "Do they really think this is going to work? Gaslighting and propaganda don't work anymore, lady. Absolute insanity."

Glenn Greenwald, a vocal critic of the war in Iran, shared a Reuters-Ipsos poll showing that nearly 60% of Americans disapprove of the conflict, challenging Leavitt’s claims.

Karoline Leavitt continues to post about Trump supporters backing Iran war

The criticism didn’t appear to affect Karoline Leavitt. On Friday, she shared a Politico poll showing that most MAGA Trump supporters fully back the war in Iran.

She wrote, "As I've said repeatedly, Americans trust President Trump as their Commander-in-Chief and support his efforts to eliminate te**orist threats and keep us safe. There is no 'MAGA fracturing,' no matter how many times the media tries to claim otherwise."

Leavitt also posted an update on the US-Israel and Iran conflict. She wrote, "Since Day One of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump clearly outlined the U.S. Military’s objectives to end the threat of the Iranian te**orist regime." She added, "The President and the Pentagon predicted it would take approximately 4-6 weeks to achieve this mission."

"Tomorrow marks week 3 - and the U.S. Armed Forces are doing an exceptional job. Day by day, the Iranian Regime is being crippled, and their ability to threaten the United States and our allies is being significantly weakened. As always, President Trump is laser focused on one thing: total and complete VICTORY," the press secretary stressed.
