NEW YORK, NEW YORK: Country singer Lee Greenwood, 82, appears to support House Speaker Mike Johnson’s call to replace Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl halftime show, as per TMZ.

Greenwood said he’s ready to take the stage and pointed to his long history of performing at NFL games, especially during Salute to Service events.

The Super Bowl LX halftime show is scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Lee Greenwood supports Mike Johnson’s idea of him performing at Super Bowl

'God Bless the USA' singer Lee Greenwood said he’s ready to replace Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl halftime show. This comes after House Speaker Mike Johnson said the NFL made a mistake by picking Bad Bunny as the headliner.

He even suggested Greenwood’s name as a better choice for the event. Johnson also called him someone who truly represents America. A few weeks ago, Greenwood performed at the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

That moment inspired Greenwood to share his thoughts and he agrees. The singer said he’s performed for the military, at public events, and at many NFL games. He believes he can bring that same energy to the Super Bowl stage.

As per TMZ, Greenwood is also set to headline the halftime show for the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football on Monday, November 3. He’s expected to perform the national anthem or “God Bless the USA” at the game.

Greenwood believes moments like these bring people together and help football fans connect. He feels the Super Bowl should be an event that unites audiences, not divides them.

The country singer’s team told TMZ that he has no hard feelings toward the Puerto Rican singer-rapper. They added that if the NFL wants, he’d be happy to perform before the game or take another segment, keeping Bunny as the halftime headliner.

Mike Johnson criticizes NFL’s pick, suggests Lee Greenwood instead

Mike Johnson didn’t hold back when asked about the NFL’s decision. During an interaction with Migrant Insider, Mike Johnson said, “I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but it sounds like a terrible decision, in my view."

“Well, it sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience,” Johnson said, explaining why he believes the NFL made the wrong choice.

He suggested that Lee Greenwood would have been a much better fit. “There are so many eyes on the Super Bowl, a lot of young, impressionable children, and I think, in my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that,” he said. “Not somebody like this.”

Even Donald Trump shared his opinion regarding the controversy surrounding Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance. Speaking to Newsmax, Trump said, “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it; it’s crazy. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Trump wasn’t the only one to criticize the NFL’s decision. His longtime ally Corey Lewandowski also called it “shameful” that the league chose Bad Bunny as the halftime performer.
