WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday, October 6, called for Congress to make English the official language of the United States after comments by Bad Bunny, who urged Americans to learn Spanish ahead of his Super Bowl 60 halftime-show performance in 2026.

During 'Saturday Night Live' on October 4, Bad Bunny told critics they had “four months to learn” Spanish if they couldn’t follow his remarks during the monologue, taking aim at those who demanded English performances.

Marjorie Taylor Greene takes dig at NFL in her post

Marjorie Taylor Greene called for congressional action in a post on X where she wrote, "Bad Bunny says America has four months to learn Spanish before his perverse, unwanted performance at the Super Bowl halftime."

"It would be a good time to pass my bill to make English the official language of America. And the NFL needs to stop having demonic sexual performances during its halftime shows," Greene added.

The selection of Bad Bunny to headline the halftime show next year has drawn fierce criticism from some conservatives.

He had previously said he would not tour in the US due to concerns that his fans could be targeted in immigration raids at his shows.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has said US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be at the game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, talked about his scheduled performance during his monologue while guest-hosting 'Saturday Night Live' last weekend.

"I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl. I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy," Bunny said, before teasing his critics in Spanish.

He then added, "If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn."

Interestingly, President Donald Trump signed an executive order this March designating English as the official language of the United States.

Moreover, the order formally declares English as the nation’s official language at the federal level.

John Oliver hails NFL for choosing Bad Bunny for halftime show

John Oliver has hailed the NFL for choosing Bad Bunny even as backlash grows over the decision to name him the next Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.

During the latest episode of 'Last Week Tonight,' Oliver celebrated the announcement and called himself a big fan of the Latin trap superstar, while applauding NFL's bold choice.

The league made the announcement during a Sunday Night Football broadcast on September 28.

Meanwhile, Oliver took aim at recent political uproar surrounding the NFL’s Super Bowl Halftime Show pick, and joked, "The NFL controversially gave the Super Bowl Halftime show to one of the hottest, most commercially successful people alive."

His comments referred to Bad Bunny, whose selection sparked backlash, including a response from the Department of Homeland Security.

Later in the 'Last Week Tonight' segment, Oliver turned to the issue of grassroots resistance to ICE activity, criticizing federal tactics and encouraging civilian pushback.

"If ICE can show up and bother some guys at their roofing job, then bystanders should be able to bother ICE at their state-sanctioned kidnapping job. It is only fair," he said.

"And look, this administration is clearly still hell-bent on trying to intimidate communities with shows of force, which is why it is so important for them to be met with strong pushback each and every time," Oliver added.
