LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Leonardo DiCaprio has opened up about his approach to relationships as he enters his fifties, saying he now prioritizes honesty — even if it means losing the connection.

The Oscar-winning actor reflected on how age has changed his outlook, especially after years of public scrutiny over his history of dating women 25 and under.

Leonardo DiCaprio says turning 50 brought ‘desire to be more honest’

Speaking to director Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire, DiCaprio said turning 50 made him reevaluate how he handles personal and professional connections.

When Anderson asked him how old he would feel if he didn’t know his age, the actor replied, “Thirty-two.” He added that “emotionally” he feels closer to 35.

Asked about his feelings on his milestone birthday, DiCaprio said, “Well, it creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time.”

“I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress,” he added.

He noted that his mother has always been direct, saying, “She just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it.

Leonardo DiCaprio stresses the importance of honesty in relationships

DiCaprio explained that dating later in life means not avoiding hard truths.

“Being more upfront and risking having things fall apart, or risking the disagreements, or risking going your separate ways from any type of relationship in life,” he said.

“The personal, the professional — it’s that you don’t want to waste your time anymore. You have to just be much more upfront. It’s almost a responsibility, because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you,” he said.

The actor has been linked to model Vittoria Ceretti, 27, since August 2023 after meeting at the Cannes Film Festival. However, sources have told the Daily Mail they are not engaged, despite her being seen with a ring. Ceretti was previously married to Italian DJ Matteo Milleri from 2020 to 2023.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating history has long drawn criticism

Before his current relationship, DiCaprio ended a five-year romance with Camila Morrone in 2022, just a month after she turned 25.

He has previously dated high-profile names such as Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli, Blake Lively, Erin Heatherton, Toni Garrn, Kelly Rohrbach, and Nina Agdal — all of whom were 25 or younger during their relationships.

In 2022, he briefly broke his pattern by being linked to Gigi Hadid, then 27, though the fling ended in December that year. He later faced backlash over being spotted with 19-year-old Eden Polani, who is 29 years younger than him.
