“Climate change is killing the Earth and ruining our economy,” DiCaprio told his 61.2 million followers on Instagram.

“We need a bold step forward to save our economy, our planet, and ourselves. That’s why I’m voting for Kamala Harris,” he added.

In his message, DiCaprio referenced Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which he called “unnatural disasters caused by climate change.”

He underscored the human and economic toll of these storms, which have reportedly cost over $100 billion in damages.

“Families lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones to some of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded,” he said, calling for immediate action to prevent further devastation.

Leonardo DiCaprio criticizes Donald Trump’s environmental record

Leonardo DiCaprio, who is a climate activist, also expressed concern over former president Donald Trump’s environmental policies, specifically the 78-year-old politician’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord and scale back protections.

“Trump continues to deny the facts and deny the science of climate change,” said the actor.

He accused the Republican presidential candidate of prioritizing the oil and gas industry, alleging that he promised to remove regulatory hurdles for fossil fuel companies in exchange for a billion-dollar donation.

DiCaprio concluded the video with a call to action, urging his followers to join him in voting for Harris on November 5.

“We cannot afford to go backwards,” he said, praising Harris for her role in leading significant climate initiatives.

DiCaprio noted Harris’ vote in favor of the Inflation Reduction Act, a historic climate and healthcare law passed under President Joe Biden, which allocated $473 billion for climate and health spending.

Leonardo DiCaprio's history of support for democratic candidates

Leonardo DiCaprio has a history of backing Democratic candidates and causes aligned with his environmental beliefs.

In 2021, he attended a fundraiser for Biden hosted by former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing. However, he has also engaged with leaders across the political spectrum.

In 2016, DiCaprio and representatives from his foundation met with then-president-elect Trump to discuss environmentally focused job creation, though DiCaprio has since criticized Trump’s approach to climate issues, according to Daily Mail.
