However, the hopes of his fans were destroyed by the streaming giant, which officially denied the claim, stating, "We’ve also heard rumors about Leonardo DiCaprio’s appearance, but they are not true.”

Why was Leonardo DiCaprio speculated to be in Squid Game season 3?

According to the Tribune, a debunked report went viral on Wednesday, January 1, claiming that Leonardo DiCaprio had completed filming for the upcoming season of the series that received global appreciation and the season is set to release over the summer.

The details about his character were claimed to be unknown, and the screentime brief.

However, after Netflix responded otherwise, the publication noted that the speculation found takers on the Internet as the actor had been vocal about being a fan of the series.

'Squid Game' lead Lee Jung Jae had crossed paths with the Hollywood star at the 2021 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, and the following year, had expressed his desire to work with DiCaprio on the show. This further fueled the rumor.

The possibility of having DiCaprio on the show was even discussed by director Hwang Dong Hyuk during a press conference celebrating 'Squid Game’s Emmy wins in 2022.

"Leonardo DiCaprio said he was a fan of Squid Game. Internally, we even joked, ‘Should we make an offer?’” he shared at the time.

Netflix's debunking the rumor did not stop fans from speculating about having the star on the show over social media.
