WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance called on Republicans to hold off on disputes about Charlie Kirk’s political views until after his funeral.

Vance addressed the conservative movement directly in a post on X Wednesday, asking supporters to focus on honoring Kirk’s life rather than arguing over his legacy.

The appeal came as some of the loudest voices on the Right openly clashed over what Kirk truly believed.

“To my friends on the political Right: I understand the feeling that people are putting words into Charlie Kirk’s mouth. At some level, I agree and share your frustration,” Vance wrote.

“Try to remember: a lot of people loved Charlie. It is natural for them to debate his views and his legacy. In fact, I think Charlie would welcome that. But for now, let’s celebrate our friend, remember his impact, and save the debate for after his funeral."

The request followed Tucker Carlson's claim that the Turning Point USA founder “did not like Benjamin Netanyahu” and “was appalled by what was happening in Gaza.”

That sparked an immediate rebuttal from Senator Ted Cruz, who insisted Kirk was a strong supporter of Israel. “I knew Charlie well, and indeed the very last conversation we had was how deeply concerned he was about the rising, toxic wave of antisemitism on the right,” Cruz posted Wednesday.

Others raised questions about outside influence on Kirk’s politics.

Candace Owens claimed hedge fund boss Bill Ackman staged an “intervention” to push Kirk into a more pro-Israel stance.

Ackman dismissed that, calling it absurd and sharing text messages showing he and Kirk had simply planned to meet for dinner in New York City this fall.

Carlson, meanwhile, attacked foreign leaders for issuing what he called “disgusting” tributes to Kirk while speaking to Vance on “The Charlie Kirk Show."

A day later, on his own program, Carlson went after Netanyahu, describing his conduct as “ghoulish and really repulsive” after Kirk’s murder.

Internet reacts to JD Vance call for unity after Charlie Kirk death

Vance’s plea drew mixed reactions online.

“I actually blame you for amplifying Tucker immediately after Charlie’s passing. Either call Tucker out by name or be quiet,” one user wrote.

Another posted, “This statement is disappointing. These people are saying that Charlie was two-faced and said one thing in public and another in private. These people are insinuating that ‘the Jooz’ had something to do with his death. You should be condemning this. Eventually, it will be time to vote. You are giving me concerns about voting for YOU.”

Some defended Vance’s tone, with one noting, “When there are hundreds of millions of people on the internet—many of them anonymous—it’s no surprise to find thousands who stir the pot for attention or clicks. This was a short story about social media.”

Others praised the vice president’s words. “JD is gonna be president in 2028 at this rate. Incredibly well said,” wrote one. Another added, “Charlie meant many different things to many different people. We should be uniting over the good that he brought into our lives.”
