LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, tragically passed away in Argentina at the age of 31, leaving behind a legacy of music and a trail of heartbreak for his family, friends, and millions of fans worldwide.

In a harrowing series of events leading up to his untimely death, it has been revealed that Payne had checked into a rehab facility just weeks before his passing, in a desperate attempt to overcome his struggles with substance abuse, as per The Sun.

However, he left the program after just 48 hours, a decision that now weighs heavily on those who were close to him.

In late July, Liam Payne made the decision to enter The Priory, a renowned addiction and mental health hospital in South West London, seeking treatment for his ongoing battle with substance abuse.

Payne, who had struggled with his mental health for years, was enrolled in the facility’s 28-day Addiction Therapy Programme, a move that was seen as a last effort to turn his life around, particularly for the sake of his seven-year-old son, Bear.

The £5,000-per-night program was designed to provide intensive support and therapy, but Payne’s time there was tragically cut short.

According to The Sun, Payne left the rehab facility after just two days. A source close to the situation revealed that "he barely left his room" during his brief stay and failed to attend any of the scheduled classes.

The weight of his struggles, it seemed, was too much for the singer to bear, even in an environment designed to help him heal.

"Family and management did everything they could. Liam was loved, adored, and incredibly talented. But he just couldn't beat his demons," a source told The Sun.

The singer had battled these issues for years, with those close to him desperately trying to intervene. "It got so bad that last year, management begged him not to drive; it was dangerous. Loved ones hid his keys, but he just bought another car."

Despite these efforts, Payne’s struggles continued to spiral out of control.

"There is some solace in his loved ones knowing he was aware of how much everyone was rooting for him," the source added. "He confronted his issues head-on, hoping to get back on track."

Unfortunately, his battle ended in heartbreak when he fell 45 feet from the balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death of Payne has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family and friends, particularly for Cheryl Cole, the mother of his son, Bear.

Cole, who was in a relationship with Payne from 2016 to 2018, shared an emotional tribute to him on Instagram, expressing her deep grief and the pain she feels for their young son.

"As I try to navigate this earth-shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I'd like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being," Cole wrote in her heartfelt message.

She continued, "Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and a father to our seven-year-old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again."

The couple’s relationship, though brief, brought them their beloved son, Bear Grey Payne, who was born on March 22, 2017.

"It's going to be hard, but we’ll do everything we can to keep Liam's memory alive for Bear," a source close to Cole revealed.
