As guests entered the Buckinghamshire church, they were met by a one-of-a-kind floral tribute: a customized display of bowling pins hit by a ball, made completely of fresh flowers.
Although the pins might have appeared out of place on a gloomy day, this touching but unusual detail was a tribute to Payne's prominent love of bowling.
Only weeks before he fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Payne celebrated his birthday in August by going bowling with his loved ones and girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
During the festivities, the late singer utilized Snapchat to share jokes with his followers, threatening to fire his security guard if he defeated him bowling again.
"Liam was with his mum in Manchester where they celebrated his birthday with family. They were still incredibly close and enjoyed spending time together bowling. Liam's family stayed with him for a few days at the Stock Exchange Hotel," a source told Daily Mail.
They somberly added, "It's tragic to think that ended up being the last time they would celebrate his special day with him."
Payne's girlfriend, Cassidy, made fun of his bowling obsession in a TikTok video in the days before his tragic death.
She posted an emotional video montage of a day spent with Payne at the bowling alley on October 3, showing the couple having a great time playing the game. She wrote, "He drags me to bowling at least four times a week," next to the video.
Vehicles arrived with Batman stickers on windows in honor of Liam Payne's passion for Caped Crusader
Several cars that arrived at the funeral ceremony on Wednesday had stickers of Batman on them in a heartfelt homage to Liam Payne's passion for the DC character.
There was no denying the Wolverhampton-born boy's obsession with Batman; some fans even suggested he was "obsessed" with the caped hero.
Payne even had a life-size cutout of Batman in his bedroom at one point, and he also shared a selfie wearing a Batman cap in 2013.
"For those who you who have doubted me and now turn to hate I'd like to say one thing… I am Batman," he wrote in a 2013 photo of himself wearing a Batman hat on X (formerly Twitter).
Payne had a realistic Batman costume that he wore to several Halloween parties between 2012 and 2019 and celebrated one of his birthdays with a cake with a Batman theme.
The former One Direction star previously dressed up as the Gotham City hero for Jonathan Ross' Halloween party, and he was also seen in 2017 sporting a Lego Batman chain.
Beyond the references to Payne's interests and hobbies, his hearse clarified the late star's top priority. On top of the hearse were two floral arrangements: The first arrangement said "SON," and the second said "DADDY."
