LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mina Caputo, lead singer of the alternative metal band Life of Agony, who was born Keith Caputo, has shared a deeply personal announcement that after more than a decade of living as a transgender woman, the musician is de-transitioning back to male.

Caputo, 50, opened up on the decision in a candid Instagram video on November 19, revealing plans to undergo surgery in January 2025 to remove breast implants and fully embrace what they describe as their “divine male self,” according to Unilad.com.

“I’ve been off hormones for six or seven years now,” Caputo shared, adding “My surgery has been booked... and I will be lovingly living in my divine male self.” The musician described the decision as the culmination of years of healing, including trauma work and plant medicine therapy, which helped to resolve the gender dysphoria that initially led to the transition.

"I've cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years, a lot of walking through the fire but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit," Caputo added.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during the transition and subsequent de-transition, Caputo spoke about the complexity of gender dysphoria, calling it "one of the most uncomfortable things" they had ever experienced. “I’ve cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years, a lot of walking through the fire, but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit,” said Caputo.

Caputo also addressed criticisms they’ve received, particularly regarding their appearance, emphasizing authenticity over societal expectations. Caputo added,  "And I'm making this video because a lot of people throwing me shade, saying I look ugly and look like a man," said Caputo.

“Honey lamb, I am a man. I always was a man,” Caputo said, adding “You’re just not used to hearing authentic people speak.”

The musician plans to revert to their birth name, Keith, as part of their journey toward what they call a more “healed” and authentic self. While reflecting on integrating feminine energy into their identity in the past, Caputo said, “It didn’t ever make me a biological woman... I could have all the makeup and the surgery, and it will never make me a Mother Gaia with a womb.”

Expressing gratitude for the personal growth gained from these experiences, Caputo concluded, “What once freed me now caged me... and now I’m changing back again. I feel so free.”

Fans and followers have shown support for the singer’s bravery in sharing their journey.
