NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Lily James made an appearance on the December 18 episode of the 'TODAY' show to talk about her upcoming film 'The Iron Claw,' managing to find time in her hectic schedule while also performing in a play in London.
When co-host Jenna Bush Hager mentioned that the play is staged twice a day, Lily James clarified that this schedule is only applicable for two days a week.
However, co-host Hoda Kotb was eager to discuss Lily James' Texas accent in the film. After a brief clip from the movie was shown, Hoda commended James, saying, "First of all, can we just give you an 'Atta girl!' for your accent?" before warmly welcoming her to the show.
How did Lily James pick up her Texas accent?
Hoda quickly went back on the topic once they were in conversation, saying that she "was enthralled by that. It's not easy to pick up a Texas accent." She was backed by Jenna, who mentioned that she hails from Austin.
When asked how she did it, James replied, "Well I just watched 'Friday Night Lights,' and there was a point where I was like 'Well I'm watching this because I'm just obsessed with the show and I'm not listening to the accent.'"
The actress also shared that she works extensively with her dialect coach, Liz, emphasizing, "I really rely on her; she's so brilliant."
Lily James creates individual scents for her various roles
In the course of the conversation, Jenna inquired, "We read that you (James) make your own scent like you really dive into these- is it true? For each character, you create a smell?"
"Yeah, I do. Because I think every day when you are getting ready in the trailer, you spray it on and suddenly it takes you to a place - kind of like focuses you in, your senses. It's so seductive, your scent."
"So do you like to go somewhere, like Bath & Bodyworks' and make (your own scent)?" Jenna further asked.
"Yeah," said James, "I just go around… (and) just spray scents (that are) already made, or I'll create one and put one together."
