Lizzo sets the record straight on Ozempic use as she says ditching veganism helped her lose weight

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer Lizzo is opening up about the changes that helped her on her weight loss journey and how she approached using diabetes drug Ozempic.
Months after responding to speculation around her body, the Grammy-winning artist revealed the shift that made the biggest impact on her health.
Lizzo says quitting veganism and Ozempic helped her reduce weight naturally
Lizzo said during her appearance on Trisha Paytas’ 'Just Trish' podcast that she initially tried Ozempic but gave it up early in her transformation.
“Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full,” said Lizzo.
"But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing," she added.
The 37-year-old also revealed that her most significant progress began when she gave up her vegan diet.
“What did it for me was — actually it was not being vegan,” said Lizzo.
“Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice, and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really, I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.”

She said her switch to more whole foods, including animal protein, made a difference.
“So for me, when I actually started eating whole foods and eating like beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of like fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up,” she explained.
Lizzo says calling Ozempic users ‘cheaters’ is ‘fatphobic’
The 'Truth Hurts' singer made it clear she supports people who turn to medications like Ozempic despite her earlier criticism of the medication.
“It’s not easy,” Lizzo said. “It’s a drug to help somebody with something they’re struggling with.”

She also responded to those who criticize people for using weight-loss medications. “Telling someone they’re cheating” is just “a way of being fatphobic,” Lizzo added.
She previously made headlines in September 2024 after she responded to an Instagram user who accused her of using the type 2 diabetes medication. “Whyyyy [sic] do u follow me?” she asked at the time as per Page Six.
By April 2025, Lizzo shared that instead of relying on medication, she had applied a calorie deficit and removed sugary items from her diet. “Everybody’s body is different,” she told fans. “Find out what works for you.”
Lizzo says mindset shift, savory meals helped reduce her body fat and BMI
Lizzo told fans earlier this year that cutting “sugary stuff” and starting her mornings with “super savory” meals contributed to her progress.
Previously she said her body mass index dropped by 10.5 and her body fat by 16 percent.

“I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking," she said.
"I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that. And I just focused on me," she said as per People.
The artist also noted that her relationship with her body has evolved. In a March 2024 interview with The New York Times, she shared that her concept of body positivity had shifted to something more neutral.

“I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day,” Lizzo said. “The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day. There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don’t feel completely positive.”
