BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Tim Wakefield’s wife Stacy Wakefield has died, just a few months after the death of the baseball knuckleball pitcher.

Stacy was reportedly 53 and was believed to be struggling with pancreatic cancer before her death.

The statement referred to Stacy as a “strong, loving, thoughtful, and kind person,” before mentioning, “We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives, and we take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life.”

It also added, “We would like to thank all of Stacy’s doctors, nurses, and caretakers who helped her from diagnosis to today—we are eternally grateful for your unmatched care and support. And to all of you who have sent well wishes over these last several months, we truly appreciate your kindness.”

Social media mourns 'unimaginable loss'

Meanwhile, an X user tweeted, “Just five months after losing Tim Wakefield, the family says good-bye to his widow Stacy who was battling cancer at the same time. They were only in their 50s. Unimaginable loss for their two children and so many others who loved them.”

Another posted, “Baseball has now lost two of the most wonderful human beings to grace the game. My idol and numbersake, Tim Wakefield, and Stacy, his beloved wife, lost to cancer. While I am devastated as a fan, my heart hurts for their friends, family, and most importantly their children.”

“I heard a few weeks ago from a mutual friend that the end was near for Stacy, but it’s still hard to comprehend this tragedy in the Wakefield family and how their two children, Brianna & Trevor, are now without their parents. Devastating on so many levels,” a third noted.

A fourth added, “The world is infinitely worse without Tim & Stacy Wakefield. To lose them both within 5 months feels incredibly unfair, especially to Trev & Bree. The only solace is that they are together, which is all they ever wanted to be. Thank you for everything, Wake and Stace. I love you.”
