Machine Gun Kelly recounts when his father faced trial for murder when he was just 9 years old
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Machine Gun Kelly is opening up about his family, and his father in particular.
Appearing on a recent episode of Bunnie XO’s 'Dumb Blonde' podcast, the 34-year-old rapper shared why his late father had to stand for trial for a murder when he was just nine years old.
The ‘Rap Devil’ star appeared on the Monday, August 5, episode, where he explained that his father and grandmother were tried for murdering Kelly’s grandfather.
Machine Gun Kelly opened up about his father’s tribulations
The ‘Bad Things’ star recalled to the host, “The story that was told to me was always that [his] dad dropped the gun and his head, it essentially blew off.”
“That all happened in the room with my dad at 9 years old. So, him and my grandmother were tried for the murder,” shared the rapper, per Us Weekly.
Nevertheless, everything turned out to be well by the end of the trial, as he revealed, “They were both acquitted.”
The musician further opened up about his father’s influence on his character and how that shaped him as a person.
Kelly, born Colson Baker, shared during the interview, “My father’s childhood journey definitely bled into mind because we shared the same bed for years.”
He further added, “The body, especially if you’re intuitive or born intuitive, your body receives the energy from all around you. So, those years that my dad slept depressed, I took on all that.”
Delving further into the matter, he shared, “I think I’ve projected myself to be somebody who has the stamina to endure all of these things that come with fame and criticism and hate.”
“Because I fought back with all those traumas by becoming what I always wanted my dad to be, which was tough and [to be able to] shake everything off and just fight anyone who comes at you,” added the rapper.
The ‘Sun to me’ singer further revealed that while he “never understood” why his father was “so closed” as a person, Kelly admitted he is like tht too.
The singer shared, “I’m tired and I’m a really shy, f**ked up kid internally and really broken. I’m just now fixing myself, and I don’t have the energy to be the image that I was.”
“Because I’m also sick of being on an island alone where no one is outside of my fans, who really can read into the music,” revealed the star.
Machine Gun Kelly opens up about his relationship with his mother
The singer shared that following his father’s death, he reconnected with his mother “in a really intense way”. He even shared that he was “molded to be so mad at” his mother because of what his father said to him.
Towards the beginning of his career, Kelly often referred to his mother - not in a glorifying light - in some of his songs. His mother allegedly left him when he was nine years old.
He shared, “I misrepresented her a lot early in my career. Not misrepresented in the sense of not speaking truth. I was speaking my truth, but I didn’t give the masses a chance to understand her truth,” before adding, “I wasn’t in contact with her to understand her truth.”
The ‘Emo Girl’ rapper clarified, “I didn’t hear the word mom during my whole teenage years. All I heard was ‘wh*re.’ And my mom is like the sweetest woman ever.”
He explained, “Another thing that kind of came with her and I reconnecting was just realizing that my dad was keeping me from her for years.”
