LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Macy Gray has revealed that she experienced severe pain following her use of Ozempic, which caused constipation and disrupted sleep.

In the second episode of MTV's 'The Surreal Life', which premiered on Tuesday, July 23, the 'I Try' singer disclosed that she was "up all night" due to constipation caused by the popular weight loss drug.

Macy Gray, 56, acknowledged that she turned to the widely used weight-loss medication after "gaining a lot" over the previous few years and was desperate to lose weight.

Gray opened up about her body image, admitting that she's "a vain person" in private and did not want to "look fat" before filming the MTV reality series 'The Surreal Life'.

In the second episode of 'The Surreal Life', Macy Gray — real name Natalie McIntyre — complained that the Ozempic injection had left her "up all night" with extreme discomfort, per Daily Mail.

During a conversation with the show's costars, Kim Zolciak and Johnny Weir, Gray disclosed that she was unable to use the restroom during her stay.

"Oh boy, my stomach hurts. I've just been really constipated. I took Ozempic. I can't go to the bathroom, and I was up all night," Gray exclaimed.

"Last night it hurt. You have to be careful, you know," Gray remarked when former 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' star Zolciak said, "Ozempic does that."

In her confessional, Gray revealed that she turned to Ozempic in order to lose some weight before beginning her nationwide tour.

"Quietly, I'm kind of a vain person. I've gained a lot of weight over the past couple years, and this is right about the time when everybody starts talking about this Ozempic," Gray explained.

Gray added: "So, I thought, okay, I'm not taking it off the right way, let me see if I can get one of these Ozempic. I was actually trying to take it off [the weight] before the show because I didn't want to be super fat on TV, but here we are."

Constipation is a typical side effect of Ozempic, along with diarrhea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, and nausea, per Us Weekly.

Online users found Macy Gray's Ozempic side effects as 'cautionary tale'

Several social media users were shocked over Macy Gray's Ozempic side effect revelation as one X (formerly Twitter) user exclaimed, "Let Macy Gray be a cautionary tale to not take Ozempic"

The same user added, "I definitely would not have taken Macy Gray as the Ozempic type"

Another explained, "But if the digestive process hasn't been completed fully, which is more likely when the signal is artificial in the case of drugs like semaglutide, this can lead to explosive diarrhea."

Ozempic has become a hot-button topic

Ozempic, which was once developed to treat type 2 diabetes, is now a widely publicized weight loss drug. Gray is only one of many famous people who have either used or had opinions about the drug.

Debilitating gastrointestinal issues, such as losing control of one's bowels, are reportedly plaguing an increasing number of A-list celebrities.

As per Daily Mail, a recent article stated that "Ozempic-induced diarrhea is becoming a very hot topic of conversation between hosts there — because so many of their guests are using it."

Drugs used to lose weight mimic GLP-1, a hormone produced by the body that helps delay the movement of food through the stomach and reduce feelings of hunger.

Although Ozempic is categorized as a diabetes treatment, some individuals have taken it to reduce weight because it includes the active component semaglutide.

The medication suppresses hunger and slows down digestion by imitating the hormone the body produces to alert us when the stomach is full so one should stop eating.

Additionally, it changes how the brain regulates appetite, preventing cravings for indulgent meals and leaving users feeling full even after eating less, resulting in a gastrocolic reflex.

Another weight-loss drug, Wegovy's prescribing instructions state that clinical trials reveal that 30% of patients get diarrhea, while the placebo produces it in 16% of cases.

According to the medication's label, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort are typical side effects of Ozempic.

In June 2023, comedian Amy Schumer admitted to using Ozempic but stopped because of the adverse effects. "I was one of those people who felt so sick," she remarked.
