Magnus Humphrey: Suspect arrested in Maleesa Mooney's death after her body was found inside refrigerator
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Authorities in Minneapolis have detained a man in connection with the September 2023 murder of a Los Angeles model who was discovered bound and gagged inside a refrigerator in her upscale downtown apartment.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced on Wednesday, February 21, that Magnus Daniel Humphrey, who was on probation for federal drug offenses, had been arrested at his Minnesota home on an unrelated federal warrant.
Maleesa Mooney's autopsy report shows blunt force trauma
According to the LAPD, he is currently being charged with Maleesa Mooney's murder. On September 12, 2023, Mooney, 31, was discovered dead in her apartment while undergoing a police welfare check that her family had requested.
On September 6, she was last observed alive on her apartment building's security cameras.
According to an autopsy report by Fox Los Angeles, her body displayed signs of blunt force trauma, including abrasions, lacerations, and contusions around her head and neck, body, and extremities.
As per the report, her ankles and wrists were securely bound, while her mouth was gagged with her own clothes.
The report stated that she was stuffed a piece of clothing into her mouth, Fox News reported.
Toxicology report found cocaine in Maleesa Mooney's system
According to police, security footage from the apartment building also showed a man carrying plastic bags to her apartment after using her key FOB to access the elevator.
The reason behind the murder and Humphrey's connection to Mooney has not been revealed by the authorities. The toxicology report indicated that cocaine was detected in her system, and her death was declared a homicide.
According to her family, Mooney was two months pregnant when she passed away.
She was a real estate agent with NestSeekers International, specializing in million-dollar homes, but her sister Jourdin Pauline had told Fox News that she was returning to modeling.
