Tragically, her body was discovered on Monday, concealed beneath a mattress at an illegal dumping ground situated in the 1700 block of Laurel Avenue in southwest Birmingham. She had sustained at least one gunshot wound.

None of the suspects have been officially charged yet, as per AL.com.

The police arrested the six suspects on Monday, starting in the morning when detectives and the Crime Reduction Team went to Serenity Apartments, where Jackson said she was being held against her will.

At around 10 am, the police arrested the first suspect, a 26-year-old woman.

She was discovered hiding in an apartment that she had broken into, near her own apartment in the same building.

She and Jackson knew each other and had argued before Jackson's death.

Another woman, 23, was also arrested on Monday morning.

Four additional suspects, including another 23-year-old woman and three men aged 25, 25, and 18, respectively, were taken to the Birmingham City Jail early Tuesday.

What happened after Mahogany Jackson asked her mother to call the police?

Family members became worried when they received a text from Mahogany Jackson, who was missing.

She said she was being held hostage and asked her mother and sister to call the police. She also sent them her location using her phone.

The family and Birmingham police went to the location she shared, but couldn't find Jackson at the Serenity Apartments in Birmingham's Powderly community.

Birmingham homicide detectives searched all day on Sunday and into Monday morning, and they found Jackson's body around 2:15 am.

On Sunday night, Mahogany's mother Gail Maddox reportedly felt something was very wrong. She said, "I feel it in my stomach. My daughter would never say call the police, but she was afraid and that's why she asked us to."

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham homicide investigators at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
