PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: In a recent interview on CNN, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida launched a scathing accusation against President Joe Biden, alleging that details of Biden's call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been leaked to appease what Rubio described as "antisemites, anti-Israel, and pro-terrorist" activists.

Rubio's comments come amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with a barrage of missile and drone strikes directed at the Jewish state.

Senator Marco Rubio's allegations

Rubio's critique centered on Biden's congratulatory call to Netanyahu following Israel's successful deflection of reported Iranian attacks using the Iron Dome defense system. According to CNN's Clarissa Ward, Biden urged Netanyahu to avoid further escalation, a sentiment echoed by Rubio, who emphasized his support for protecting US troops in the region.

"They’re not asking for it. But I think we go from that to the other extreme, which is Joe Biden telling Netanyahu, ‘Take the win, don’t do anything,’ and then his people leaking it to the media, leaking it to the press!" Rubio stated in the interview with CNN's Jake Tapper.

"And what it sets up is, they know that Israel’s going to respond. They know this for a fact. So, why would the White House leak it? There’s only one reason they leaked that. And that is that so when Israel does respond, the White House can say, 'We told them not to do it,' and at least somehow in some way, appease these so-called peace activists," he continued.

Rubio further asserted that the leaked details of the call were intended to create a narrative where the White House could distance itself from any Israeli response to future attacks. He criticized those advocating for an Israeli ceasefire, arguing that they had previously cheered the missile strikes aimed at Israel.

"By the way, these “ceasefire now” people who were out yesterday cheering the launch of hundreds of rockets and drones and missiles against Israel. People that are out there cheering military attacks of this scale and scope are not peace activists. These are antisemites, anti-Israel, and pro-terrorist elements out there. And we need to stop calling them peace activists," Rubio insisted.

"They are not peace activists. You don’t — peace activists do not cheer massive attacks against other countries, which is what they were doing yesterday. So, I guess this is part of the White House’s effort to appease them by putting this out that proactively," he added, as quoted by Mediaite.

Social media reactions

The senator's remarks sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many nodding in agreement with Rubio's assessment and criticizing Biden's handling of the situation.

"He’s not wrong," one posted on X.

"Yes senator, well said," another gushed.

"This is terrible. Biden is despicable," a comment read.

"Cause everything is Political … that’s all they know," someone else offered.

"Biden only cares about VOTES!! He's using our tax $$ to fund BOTH Iran & Israel!!" another alleged.

In response to Iran's aggressive actions, Biden and his national security team reiterated their support for Israel's defense while emphasizing that US forces would not engage in counter-strikes against Iran. Despite the reassurances, concerns remain about the potential for further escalation in the region.

Iran's aggression

Since Saturday, Iran has launched over 300 missiles, drones, and other strikes toward Israel, with most intercepted and shot down before reaching their target. Speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, US officials described Iran's actions as at the "high end" of what was anticipated, with Biden and senior officials monitoring the situation in real-time from the White House Situation Room.

The Pentagon confirmed that US military forces had destroyed numerous attack drones and ballistic missiles intended for Israel, underscoring America's "ironclad" commitment to supporting Israel's defense efforts. Biden praised the skill of US servicemembers and the effectiveness of deployed resources in thwarting the incoming threats.

"At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the US military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week," Biden stated in a late-night address. "Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles."
